Why are condoms wrong?

Why do you think the Pope was discussing marriage?
Partly because of this article in the Tablet and partly from the logical analysis of the Pope’s statements:

Pope’s condom comments extend to female prostitutes
24 November 2010

Pope Benedict XVI clarified that comments he made about there being a moral case for prostitutes using condoms to prevent the spread of HIV applied not only to male prostitutes but to female ones as well. His comments appeared in the book-length interview Light of the World, authored by German journalist Peter Seewald, which was launched at the Vatican yesterday. The book quoted the Pope as saying: “In the case of some individuals, as perhaps when a male prostitute uses a condom, this can be a first step in the direction of a moralisation … in the intention of reducing the risk of infection”. Holy See spokesman Federico Lombardi said at the launch: “I asked the Pope personally if there was a serious distinction in the choice of male instead of female and he said ‘no’.” Fr Lombardi added: “The point is [the use of a condom] should be a first step towards responsibility in being aware of the risk [to] the life of the other person one has relations with. If it is a man, a woman or a transsexual who does it, we are always at the same point, which is the first step in responsibly avoiding passing on a grave risk to the other.” Seewald suggested that the Pope’s words could be interpreted as permitting condom use for couples when one is HIV-positive. “The Pope indicates that, beyond the single case, there are further cases where one can imagine that condom use is a step towards a responsible approach to sexuality in this area to avoid further infection,” he said.

Contraception remains gravely sinful and intrinsically wrong in marriage. No change.

The Pope, the Condom, and the Elephant

Regarding the Pope’s interview, “none of this has any bearing on the Church’s traditional teaching against contraception in marriage. Indeed, no matter what position the Pope or any other moralist may take on the use of condoms in particular situations which are already fundamentally disordered—situations in which sexual activity is already intrinsically immoral—that position cannot affect the Church’s teaching on the use of condoms in sexual acts which are otherwise properly ordered and moral—that is, within marriage. In each and every properly ordered and therefore moral sexual act (that is, in each and every marital act), deliberate contraception remains intrinsically immoral.”

Idle desires, wishful feeling, cannot change anything.

I’ve never quite understood why the rhythm method is ok but condoms aren’t. I know the teachings say that the rhythm method allows for the possibility still of a conception. But it still means many geniuses don’t get born because the sperm that would have fertilised their eggs ends up elsewhere than where nature intended.

The argument that condoms are no good because they act as a barrier is strange when you consider that the church points out condoms have their failings when it comes to stopping the transmission of STDs.

With holes and tears in condoms the possibility of creation of life is still there just as with the rhythm method.

Pope’s condom comments extend to female prostitutes

Pope Benedict XVI …Seewald suggested that the Pope’s words could be interpreted as permitting condom use for couples when one is HIV-positive. “The Pope indicates that, beyond the single case, there are further cases where one can imagine that condom use is a step towards a responsible approach to sexuality in this area to avoid further infection,” he said.

So as I see the Popes comments, and what I think you are agreeing to, is that sex outside of marriage is wrong and intrinsically evil. Which is church teaching. I do not believe that any Dogma or teaching in the recent press has been changed by any statements? Although some might be trying to say they have?

I also believe, and think you and most other Catholics believe as well, that if an HIV positive rapist, homosexual or prostitute decides to wear a condom in order to protect the person that they are already violating or servicing that somewhere deep in their being they are at least acknowledging that the persons life they are morally violating, or corrupting, does have worth that needs to be valued? That is what I believe the Pope meant in his recent writing and through statements from the Vatican, and if that is what you believe then I too agree with you and I think you understand the Popes points.

If on the other hand you are trying to say that the Pope believes this TINY acknowledgment that a partners life by the condom wearing HIV partner is good, or that a condom would allow them enough grace to counter balance the inherent selfish and evil nature of their selfish sex act when the act, with or without a condom, is putting a partners physical life, as well as eternal life at risk, then I think you are way off the mark.

IMHO an HIV homosexual person that is acting out his or her lifestyle, or prostitutes, are already leading a selfish lifestyle as they have accepted the twisted expression of creation or sold the expression God holds for a married Man and Wife. If they are Catholic then they fully understand that through their actions they are putting a supposed “Loved” one or customer’s soul at risk by and through their actions. Wearing a condom or not only effects this mortal life as they may have already participated in the damnation of their “Loved” ones, or customers eternal soul. The HIV positive rapist is at least protecting a life, and although what he is doing is intrinsically evil his actions are not putting the eternal soul of his victim at risk. He is only putting his own soul at risk through his evil actions.

I would think that a married couple is no different and in some respects I actually think an HIV spouse wearing a condom is worse then a rapist wearing a condom. If an HIV man or woman puts their own pleasure above the life of their spouse and well being of their children are they showing love (Agape)? NO! they are showing selfish desire. Their spouse is showing love (Agape) by risking themselves for the simple pleasure that they would feel to satisfy their spouse. They may be guilty of risking their children’s well being over that of their spouse that they will then have to answer to God for. If they actually willingly participate in a sex act with a condom on and they have children how is that not selfish? One might argue that they are, or need to express with their spouse the unitive portion of sex by wearing a condom, and yet they put at risk the union? This act might leave children without parents? When balanced against the fact that it does not create life, but can potentially only end life and possibly make life worse on innocent children it is simply morally wrong. It is selfish and therefore IMHO evil. How can you defend an act that only puts innocent people at risk? What is the gain but selfish pleasure? The ONLY good that could come from an HIV positive union is the potential CHANCE of a new life not corrupted with the virus, but wearing a condom prevents that. If they are wearing a condom they obviously have no intent on participation in the creation of life? So it truly is ONLY for the pleasure of the HIV positive spouse or even both, but pleasure and maybe a temporary increase in the unitive portion of the marriage, but again it threatens to end the marriage through death and leave any children parent less. SELFISH!!. How selfish that a spouse would put their mate and children at such risk… PATHETIC, SELFISH, and in my opinion evil they are. I believe that abstinence in the case of a married couple is showing TRUE love (agape) for that life and benefit of the spouse and children.

It appears Seewald has ignored the intrinsically selfish nature of a CONDOM when worn by a couple at ALL times. When one is HIV positive it only makes a condom more and expression of SELFISH love then before. When a condom is worn by two healthy people they are both being selfish by denying life. When worn when one is HIV positive it twists the marriage act into a bestial act of pure self pleasure and lust. I wonder if he has an agenda? Do you think he may be trying to make some greater good linkage that will ultimately lead to him saying that all condom usage in marriage is good and that then when they fail abortion too is OK? I wonder where is Satan in these arguments? Which side of the fence do you think he is on? Which side does he profit more throwing his weight behind? Where does Planned Parenthood stand on this?

The issues that you are trying to reason have to do with intent. When someone uses Natural Family Planning they are abstaining during the most intense period of desire for sex. It is a sacrifice to NOT have sex while fertile. When using a condom you are saying NO. Your intent is NO. If a couple that uses NFP conceives they will likely accept the child with open arms because chances are they did not follow NFP and understand that this must be Gods intent. A person using a condom will likely say they were cheated, that the condom failed and that they do NOT want the child. They will then turn to abortion more often then not. Married couples using NFP have a considerably less likelihood of divorce then those using condoms. Why?
The answer is in intent, total self giving love and openness to life.
Below are some things that might help in understanding the lies of condoms. The first is a site that just presents issues about usage and about church teachings you will have to explore it. The second document discussed the LIE that Planned Parenthood and others offer concerning sex education and Aids. Notice in the report Uganda. This is a document from a Pro-Life site so some might question it, but the last document is from USAID and it provides documented evidence to the second report.

Why does the media not report this?
We kill more people passing out condoms then save? Why because the simple act of passing out a condom somehow registers consent towards the evil acts and it pretends to offer protection. It is like handing your child a helmet just in case he decides to run across a freeway in the middle of the night dressed in black. Why not teach him. “Don’t run in the freeway?” Modernists assume, and like to teach, that people MUST have sex, that we have no more self control than dogs or rabbits? They do not and honestly if Aids was a little faster in killing people and if it was even more deadly I would bet that fewer people would risk death. The problem is that most people THINK that it won’t happen to them, and statically it might not, but the CONDOM actually makes them think they are more safe, and they are not. In my opinion almost everything Planned Parenthood Pushes is bad for youth, and advances the cause of Evil and death. Either through active participation or by second and third order effects.

I hope you enjoy the sites… Look up Dr. Janet Smith she has some great MP3. Catholic Answers Live also has her on from time to time…

Happy Turkey Day…!!

I’ve never quite understood why the rhythm method is ok but condoms aren’t.
NEWCATHOLICJEFF has provided good information.

God has created us with infertile periods for the woman. He has NOT commanded us NOT to use them. He has created us with free will and a brain to reason from cause to effect – all part of His natural moral law, known even to the pagans. He has commanded us to increase and multiply.

He has given us His Church to teach infallibly on faith and morals and She confirms the natural moral law with Her doctrines.

The difference is that, with contraception (like condoms), a couple deliberately places a barrier to procreation while seeking the pleasure of the marital act. With Natural Birth Regulation (NBR) the couple uses what God has provided without deliberately placing a barrier to thwart the procreative end of marriage. NBR may be used only for serious reasons which Christ’s Church has identified, without which the action would be objectively gravely sinful also because it uses a natural process for a wrong end.

among other reasons, any form of intercourse not open to life is condemned by the Catholic Church
sex is meant for procreation, that is it’s purpose,
of course it was made to be enjoyable, and that is a good thing, but just like all good things, it can be misused.

it is also essentially like a “birth” control, insomuch as it is an attempt at preventing birth.

ok, hope this helps, take care.
Beautifully written =) Very eloquently spoken’ =) I will share this on facebook ~hope you don’t mind =)
