Why Are Protestants Here?

I am a non-Catholic Christian, not an anti-Catholic Christian. I was invited by a Catholic CAF member who was on another Christian forum. šŸ‘

Iā€™m not here to argue with or denigrate Catholics. As far as Iā€™m concerned theyā€™re just as much children of the most high God as I am, and Orthodox are too. Of course we have some doctrinal differences, but those are things to learn about and discuss peacefully, not to fight over. Thatā€™s what Iā€™m here for.

Iā€™ve actually encountered almost nothing but friendly, energetic, knowledgeable Protestants here. CARM is another story altogether. But generally, even when the discussion is one Catholic asking for general information on a point of doctrine, a Protestantā€™s view and understanding of what that doctrine is can sometimes enlighten as to how Catholic teaching is really being received even if given truthfully and honestly. Itā€™s refreshing to hear other peopleā€™s ideas and background. šŸ‘

I ended up here because I discovered EWTN Radio (thank you white sedan with the bumper sticker!).

I have noticed a number of Protestants and yes, even atheists are frequent posters. A few of them pose as Catholics for a while, that is until their emotions cause them to reveal themselves.

Is CA the best Catholic/Christian forum? What is the motive of a Protestant to come here and belittle Catholocism? I do not believe that a nonCatholic comes here to gain knowledge, but rather it is the reverse. šŸ˜¦

What are your motives to belittle those are not or no longer Chatholic?
 
To argue with Catholics and tell them how wrong they are. šŸ˜ƒ Just kidding

In reality, it is to work out some of the hang ups I have developed with the church since converting. I currently attend an Episcopal Church, but I am really considering leaving that and going back to the Catholic Church. However, I want my beliefs to be solidified when I do.

As a Catholic who left for Anglicanism, I havenā€™t found Catholicism to be what so many strict, hardcore Catholics have found it to be. And I think I come on here wanting to speak with caring, charitable, loving, intelligent Catholics who can show me if Iā€™m wrong and give me their perspective AND I enjoy meeting faithful, devout, bible-loving Protestants who give me their perspective. Most of my best friends in here are Protestants and Orthodox, several Catholics, too. The juryā€™s really out where my wife, kids, and I will land. I must say that there is so much vitrole and condescending angry Catholics who blast away in here that CAF in many ways has actually slowed my road back to Rome and helped it to detour LOLā€¦that and some theology I just canā€™t swallowā€¦peace to allā€¦

Most of my people get too worked up to discuss these things. Fortunately I am much more even tempered.
 
Please tell me youā€™re more of an Oā€™Reilley or Laura Ingraham and not the Glen Beck of CAFā€¦say 'tainā€™t so! šŸ˜›

I find some Catholics (especially in the Traditional forum) can be that way, but most here are not. Iā€™ve seen a lot of Protestants do the same, especially Reformed, mocking Catholics.

Anyway, I wouldnā€™t want to have my faith based on how people come across on CAF, but rather what the actual teachings are.

I think if you read history and the Church doctors, itā€™s hard to rationally reject Catholicism. If you attend mass, especially a traditional one in a beautiful cathedral with beautiful music, itā€™s hard to reject the transcendent beauty of the Church.

I understand your frustration but I think that non-Catholics have a right to post here as well. This website states that it is for Catholics and non-Catholics alike and it would be nice if you could be a little more tolerant.

You also said that you do not believe that non-Catholics come here to gain knowledge. I for one am not a Catholic but am currently dissatisfied with the Episcopal Church and some of my Catholic friends suggested that I look into the Catholic Faith.

I have no intention of belittling Catholicism and I do not think that I am the only one who feels this way.

I got it, but itā€™s getting really old and not funny anymore. Especially since I think nearly the opposite is true: FNC gets a lot of flak for not sharing the ā€˜normalā€™, expected left wing bias of the other major media. And many of the Fox commentators are right wingers of one flavor or another (Hannity - movement conservative; Oā€™Reilly - populist conservative; Stossel - hardcore libertarian; Cavuto - pragmatic libertarian)ā€¦ but commentary is commentary, not news.

Full disclosure: I am myself a pragmatic libertarian of approximately Cavutoā€™s stripe. I used to be more hardcore, like Stossel, but Iā€™ve mellowed over the years.

Ok, enough sidetracking. I promise not to say another word about politics in this thread. šŸ˜Š

When pulling up threads from search, etc, please check the date of the last post before posting to it.

Your cooperation and courtesy in not reopening old/dormant threads is requested:

-1. the issues that spurred them are often no longer ā€œhotā€ or current topics, explaining why thread activity ceased originally

-2. posters originally involved in the discussion are sometimes no longer active on the forum and, therefore, unavailable to reply to comments added to the thread

Our experience suggests that, when a topic merits revival, it is best accomplished by initiating a new thread that draws on recent events and can be posted to contemporaneously. This eliminates the baggage of folks being frustrated by asking and not receiving responses to issues raised in early posts (because the new poster didnā€™t notice that the post he is quoting was made a year ago).
