Why are Sunday afternoon Masses rare?

Sunday afternoon Masses are rare because people want to go home or go to dinner at that hour.

The three parts of the Sunday observance:
  1. Liturgy
  2. Eat
  3. Nap
 
St. Andrew, in Eagle River, has a 7:30PM sunday during fishing season. Since fishing season in Alaska is about feeding the family for a large chunk of the population, the fisherman’s special masses (5-8pm start times) are permitted by the ABp.

Blessed Theodore Rohmza Mission, in Wasilla, has a Byzantine-Ruthenian Divine Liturgy at 5:30PM… since Rev. Fr. Mike has to complete the DL at St. Nicholas, attend the social after, do the hours, and then drive 60+ miles to perform the DL at BTRM. And then drive 60 mi back again. In snow, rain, sleet, hail, or other nasty weather.
