Why are the apostles reliable witnesses?

Hey! I hope everyone is doing well preparing for easter. How do we know the apostles are reliable witnesses since the events were not written down till 60-100 years after Jesus death?
 
The apostles were eye witnesses to the events that occurred who later died despite the chance to recant what they were eyewitness to.

The date you give is a liberal one. It is almost certain that Luke, for instance, was written within 40 years, as we know Luke wrote Acts as well, and stopped that book around 61 AD, as Luke seems to have written without knowledge of St Paul’s martyrdom, but instead ends with him in chains. And Luke is not regarded as being the first written Gospel, either.
If you recall, Jesus died around 30 AD.
 
Because all of them, except for St. John, were martyred for their faith. No other religion can claim this. Martyrdom is the seed of Christianity.
 
Tons of people have martyrs for their faith. Islam, small cults… they all died for what they believed though?
 
No other religion has this: the founder killed, the fist followers (inner circle) killed, many followers persecuted and killed for 300 years. Christianity prevailed against all odds.
 
Islam has had many die for there faith and Buddhist have lit themselves on fire. The key difference is that these people are dying for what was written before and were not active witnesses to the event or declaration of the “teacher”. The first Christians died in the time frame of knowing if Jesus was real or not and if the resurrection was a historical event. Many people will die for a lie not knowing any better; but how many would be willing to die for a lie knowing that it is a lie? Not many.
 
In the end I would say we don’t.
It is too long ago and really we no longer even know who they are.

The issue is now whether the Catholic Church is a credible witness.
I have no reason to say its not a credible enough witness.

But in the end faith still needs to be faith.
If you want certainty become a scientist. But those truths hardly help us sleep well at night.
 
Your time frame is too wide.

Jesus died in A.D. 30.

Most of the NT was written between 50-90, and all of it was finished by 100.

So actually it was written between 20-70 years of Jesus’ death.
 
This has helped calm my anxiety tremendously. I really appreciate this yet again!
