Free societies sanitizing history is a recent phenomenon. Historical truth and accuracy are no longer as important as not offending people who can not come to terms with ideas that challenge their views of how this world should be.

It is sad that today, people will change history because a small percentage of people may feel “less than” for 15 minutes.

It used to be repressive regimes who rewrote history to suit their agenda. Today, it is liberal academia who act like the fascists they claim to hate.

15 years ago, liberals would fight for your right to say things that they disagreed with vehemently. Today, they call it hate speech and either shout it down or rewrite it so it is no longer accurate.

The bible is a product of a time when slavery was a fact of life. Since children today are no longer allowed to read literature where ideas like slavery or segregation are a fact of life, they now are forced to ask questions like the one posited by the original post.

I think the bible loses meaning if the Jews were simply poorly compensated employees of the Egyptians who provided a generous 401 k plan to those that reached the mandatory retirement age of death.

Notice no one was offended by the last paragraph, but the lesson of why the Jews wanted to leave Egypt is confused. They should have applied for higher paying jobs.
