Why are we allowed to have statues in our Churches?

I am trying to justify why we are allowed to have statues in our churches. Prostetant friends say it is worshipping idols. i kno wthat is not true but need the correct response.

Also the question of how man can name a sait like the Pope. i know one or two miracles have to be proven but pleas eexpound.
