Why are we punished for the sins of Adam and Eve?

Adam and Eve had free will which they were given by God. We humans of the modern day are denied of our free will to choose whether we have original sin even though we are not responsible for their actions. Why does God allow us to be punished for the free will of others when He has the power to abolish original sin? I have heard the analogy of a grandfather losing his grandchildren’s inheritance but why does Adam’s sin affect all of human’s nature and why does God allow this?
