Why are you Eastern Catholic

I enjoy all things Syriac (liturgy, music, language, theology) and hope to spread the love of it in our church (especially since I was told that Ephrem, Jacob of Sarug, etc. should be used supplementarily, at best, to Aquinas because they’re simply antiquated poetry).
That’s sad. As a Roman Catholic, I can’t recommend enough the stunning “antiquated poetry” of Ephrem 😦

That’s disgusting. Shame on those people who told you that. Mor Ephrem is the harp of the Holy Spirit, nobody’s supplement. Thank God I had a wonderful father of confession during my time in the RCC who introduced me to this life-changing saint. His poetry is absolutely sublime and, what’s more, powerfully instructive and transformative. To be deprived of Mor Ephrem (or to have his importance downplayed to you as being supplementary to that of a much later and completely different Latin theologian-philosopher), particularly as a Syriac Christian, is really a travesty.

I agree! Not to mention, St Ephrem the Syrian is a Doctor of the Church (the only deacon to be made one at that).

I was raised Protestant. Largely as a result of my theological studies at Duke Divinity School, I became Orthodox, (OCA). Not long after that, I met my wife, who is a life-long Roman Catholic. She was not willing to become Orthodox, but she agreed that if I would become Catholic, she would agree to worship with me in an Eastern Catholic Church and that our children would be raised as Eastern Catholics. I agreed, and became Ruthenian Catholic.
I know you’re not alone in this, many people leave their Faith behind in order to gain a spouse. But it still grieves me to the heart each time I hear it. 😦

Matt. 19:29

I did not see it as leaving my faith behind.

I was born in the rite, but did search out other denominations and came back. Went to RC churches , even RC high school, and found so many errors, I still stayed.

FYI I remember being in school Ukr catholic, as Sister started out so excited about Vatican 2 starting…every day she became more and more saddened…finally she said “all the changes in Vatican 2 relate to the RC church, does not affect us at all…thank God.”

The “errors” I mentioned above I believe are all a result of Vat 2. God does not change, His laws do not change, His Holy Word does not change, but human interpretation does.
