Why aren't more involved in the missionary work required of us by Christ?

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Matt 28: 19,20 NAB)

It seems clear to me that Christ is calling us all to evangelize the world to the Truth revealed to us through Sacred Scripture and His Church.

Why are the majority of Catholics apathetic and/or ignorant of this call?

Because this call is to the really believing Christians who follow Christ by denying themselves.

Two words: human nature.
Yes. Human nature WITHOUT GOD’S GRACE.

Two words: human nature.
Conservative Protestants have the same human nature we do; but they put us true believers of the True Faith to shame.

So why is this?

That’s because human nature + God’s Grace…

by evangelizing the whole world this call also means to evangelize where and when you are living–in your homes, families, communities, schools, workplaces, by being involved in civic affairs, by living the beatitudes, spiritual and corporal works of mercy where you are. If we all left tomorrow for foreign lands who would be left here to evangelize a society which so badly needs it?

What can be done?
“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” ( Acts 1:8 )

“But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.” ( Romans 8:9 )

I guess it depends on one’s experience: the Evangelical Protestants I know don’t go to services; work like dogs on Sunday; do not give to charity; do not read the Scriptures; etc. On the other hand, our parish has many active and fervent Catholics that would put most Protestants to shame.

There are more graces in Christ’s Church [the Catholic Church] than anywhere else in the world.

You see why Roman Catholics do not need to evangelize the world? Because they think like puzzleannie…

Your parish…

That’s why you see much more Roman Catholics going to evangelize the world, as the Lord commands us to do…

That’s right! There are thousands of Catholic missionaries, and wonderful orders such as Mother Theresa’s. There are Catholic missionaries all over the world, spreading God’s Word.

So just tell EsclavoDeCristo that there is no need for this thread, because it is not true that there are few Roman Catholics who go to evangelize…

🙂

The real reason?

Because Catholics have been told by modernist in the church that it is un-necessary!

Why convert anyone, when “any faith will do?”
Traitors, every one of them who have watered-down the truth so much, that it no longer resembles it.

When Christ comes to Judge, many will be guilty of betraying the Church and Her children- The local Priest will have MUCH to pay for, since he is responsible for his parish- He has the means to learn and preach the truth, and did not, for the sake of being “friendly” and “liked” and the fear of suffering human retribution.
God have Mercy in Justice on them- and all of us, for not doing our Christian duties.

Speak for yourself.

You are exceedingly judgmental.

You’re not being very logical. I didn’t say that we don’t need everyone to evangelize, whether at home or abroad. And America in particular has too many complacent Catholics. I was simply countering your ludicrous implication that fewer Catholics are involved in missionary work than non-Catholic Christians: it’s simply not true.

By the way, you may not know this but the term “Roman Catholic” only refers to part of the Catholic Church (the Western, or Latin, Rite). The Catholic Church encompasses many Eastern Churches as well, so “Catholic Church” is a more accurate term to use than “Roman Catholic”.

I have no statistics that say many Catholics are evangelizing or that many are not, but I think before someone decides who is evangelizing and who is not they should remember the words of St. Francis. (I think). “Preach the Gospel always, use words when necessary.” There is a great deal of evangelizing going on when people simply live an honest and decent life in the observance of their faith. Helping out when needed and not letting the material world take over their life. There are many who do this and who are perhaps not recognized as “evangelists” but they are doing much to keep the faith alive and to spread it.

peace
