Why can’t a divorced Catholic receive Communion? Where in the scriptures can i find this?

Thank you.

Hi,

The Catholic Church does allow divorced Catholics to receive Holy Communion. So long as they are living in a celibate way, they may receive. But it does not allow divorced Catholics who have attempted to marry again from receiving. This is because one can’t be married to more than one person at the same time AND the state does not have the power or authority to dissolve a valid marriage. “What God has joined together, man must not divide” Mt. 19:6.
