Why can't I go to confession?

I’m currently in RCIA. I was told that before we get the Eucharist at Easter, we are required to go to confession. Well, I’ve been feeling compelled to go now. I talked with our RCIA leader and she said I’m not allowed to go to confession yet. That I have to wait until the reconciliation service at Easter time.
I’m wondering, if I have to go to confession before Easter, why can’t I go now (and then again before the Easter service when I’d be joining the faith)?

I was told that if I go now, it “would not count” and I’d have to inform the priest that I’m in RCIA and I’d have to make a seperate appointment and see him in his office (that I wouldn’t be allowed to go during normal reconciliation times).

So, why can’t I go now? It sounds like only Catholics are allowed to go or something. I wouldn’t be getting the Eucharist until Easter service regardless. But my heart has been really pulling me in the direction that I NEED to go NOW (which I don’t understand fully considering required confession was a “speed bump” for me). I’m confused. I feel like the Holy Spirit is leading me and yet I’m being denied.

Is my RCIA leader incorrect or am I really not allowed to go to confession until we are told to do so?

Hi,

Since you are already baptized, and are preparing to enter the Catholic Church, if you know how to go to Confession, and you want very much to have your sins forgiven, I see no reason why you can’t go now. Just tell the priest your situation when you begin your confession. You can go again when the RCIA people want you to go. Welcome home!
