Why can't we keep our dead relatives?

Can you explain the reasoning behind a need for a permanent resting place for the dead? Our relatives see no need to spend the money for a burial spot for a deceased relative and would rather keep him “close to home,” literally in their home, or scatter his remains and “return him to the earth.”

The human body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and the “vessel” of the human soul, made in the image and likeness of God. It therefore must be treated with respect. It is beneath the dignity of the human person for his remains to either be placed on a shelf in someone’s home (and thus treated as a personal possession of someone else) or flung to the four winds.
