As someone who has thought long and hard about converting to the Roman Catholic Church I thought I would ask people on the forum why they consider the RCC to be ultimately correct theologically, and philosophically?

We believe it is true because it was founded by God incarnate and is still around today proclaiming the same truths that it did when it began.

The question that I always come back to is, Why would anybody that has given the subject any real study or thought be anything other than Catholic? I say this in all possible humility. The Catholic Church, founded by Christ, has stood the test of time as Christ promised. The Catholic Church, inspired by God, has given the world the Bible, and has protected and defended that holy book down through the centuries. It has been those that have fallen away that have changed the Bible, by removing books, to fit their own needs.

Just my thoughts. May God Bless You on Your Journey!

NOT JUST STRONG…CATHOLIC STRONG!!!

Out of curiosity, what are your current beliefs? There’s a big difference between being a Protestant considering the Catholic Church and being a non-Christian considering the Catholic Church, and the responses that you get will need to base themselves around your current background (for example, if you’re a non-Christian, they would not use a scriptural argument, since you wouldn’t believe in the Christian scriptures, but instead might start with an argument from the Resurrection of Jesus. And vice-versa, if you’re already a Christian, they won’t bother arguing for the Resurrection of Jesus, since you already believe that, but would instead use a scriptural argument). If you don’t want to tell your beliefs, that’s fine too, I just thought it might help you get the right kind of responses.

first is history. if you look at history, you’ll see that the Catholic Church is the one that existed from the time of Jesus. other denominations just claim to faith in Jesus, the Catholic Church (as well as the Orthodox) would claim that they are the Church that Jesus founded on Peter (Catholic and Orthodox were one until 1054)

now, to resolve the issue of Catholicism or Orthodoxy, just look at the scripture to whom Jesus gave the keys to Heaven. its to Peter. this justifies Papal Supremacy, which the Catholic Church teaches, and Orthodoxy does not

As a convert I thought about this too. The conclusion I came to was the Catholic faith supports and is supported by reality–how people really are and how people really react. If actually practiced, it forces you to face yourself, flaws, sins and all. It doesn’t pander to one’s weaknesses nor strokes the ego–which leads to self-deception. It’s simply true. And the one who said “the truth will set you free” is the one who founded it. Worked for me.

First and foremost…becasue** I believe that everything in Catholicism is true**. Everything in that The Catholic Church has ever said…is saying…and ever will say…on any issue of faith and morals is true and always will be true.

Second…The** Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ**…and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass…from Calvary to the Resurrection to the Ascension right in to the Divine Liturgy of Heaven…and receiving the Lamb of god who takes away the sins of the world.

Third…like GK Chesterton….I want to have my sins forgiven…the Catholic Church can and does do this for me…with absolute certainty.

Fourth…also like GK Chesterton who saw the sign posted on the back wall of the first Catholic Church that he ever entered…“Ladies, guard your purses and valuables…you will be sitting among thieves and robbers”…there is** no pretense about being anything but a bunch of sinners**…the only criterion for entry!

Lastly, if my children and genealogy (I think that is the right word) extends for another 1000 generations (that is, the Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus has not occurred)…those descendants of mine and my wife…will (if they elect to remain Catholic) be practicing the same faith with the same beliefs that I practice today…!!!

Because for me, its logical.

When I was about 18, and off at Uni, I was surrounded by a lot of Protestants who were out to save my Catholic soul from the fires of Hell. My then best friend was really tryign to get me out of the Church, and told me to do research into the “whore of Babylon”.

Now, I’m a cradle Cath, devoute Catholic mother, convert Catholic father, good Catholic schools, I knew the ins and the outs of the faith, and I accepted them. I decided to do research, not sure if I shoudl stay in the Church, thinking maybe these Protestants were onto something.

But everything lined up. I tried to “trick” the Church, I tried to think of arguments against the scriptural backing, against their social teachings, and nothing worked, teh Church always came out with the truth. And then I tried to line up my more “secular” beleifs, evolution, aliens on other worlds, science et cetera, and again, The Holy Church kept on lining up.

There was logic in Her teachings, and not just logic, the divine creation, Jesus gave Peter the a-okay to start the Church. Her roots started from Jesus’ say so.

I fell in love with the Church, and through Her teachings came even closer to God

She doesn’t just bang the bible across your head and say “beleive this because I say so”, she calmly and rationally provides logic and reasoning as to the scriptual backing of all her doctrines and disciplines. Then, with some of the greatest minds in history, provides ample thought and reflection on these tenants.

There are snippets of the truth in Protestantism, but they turned their backs on the whole lot a long time ago. Its not to say God doesn’t operate in such churches, but the whole Truth just isn’t there.

The whole Truth, the whole Truth of God, it sits within the Catholic Church.
