I am looking to different religions, so my questions are :
  1. Why did you become Catholic?
Through constant prayers, studies and the Grace of God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I have come to believe that the Catholic Church is the Church which Jesus Christ founded.
  1. Did you do research in to other religions first?
I searched far and wide, from secular humanism to Jehovah Witnesses, Church of Christ, Pentecostal and Evangelical Christian. I finally found the Pillar and Foundation of Truth!
  1. And other than your believe that God stared the Catholic church, why else would you reccomened it to someone else: in other words, What do you love about it? 😃
There is no earthly reason to become a Catholic. As a Catholic, you are required to take up your cross daily and follow Christ. There is nothing in this world worth all of this. However, I have assurance that, if I persevere to the end, I will enjoy eternal Life. Having Christ live in me and I in Him makes it all worthwhile.

  1. Why did you become Catholic?
Because it was so glaringing obvious when researched that I should be one.
  1. Did you do research in to other religions first?
I was born and raised a Pentacostal-Holyrolling-Catholichating-SouthernBaptist – I had not really done a lot of looking – when the church I grew up in went through a few splits I just stopped going – met my now husband and starting going to mass with him – but I was SO never going to convert – THAT took 6 years of marriage and a ton of research that I wasn’t ready to do for a long long time.
  1. And other than your believe that God stated the Catholic church, why else would you reccomened it to someone else: in other words, What do you love about it?
I love the history, the covenant, the lineage, the truth, the sacraments, the faith, the community, the openess, the universal feeling and the simple love I’ve found in the Catholic church.

I was a wild-eyed Pagan who survived 23 months of combat. Overseas the only ones who went to “church” were the Catholic boys.

Back in the US I started to talk to an old Priest in Calif. He was tough like a Sgt, I liked that- for he told the flat out truth.
What “got”: me about really becoming a Catholic?
  1. It is the oldest Christian Religion - Jesus started it - that counts. The protestants have diluted, changed and adulterated things so much they dont even have confession.
  2. I needed to confess to a Priest who had his linage traced bsk to Jesus.
  3. The Caatholicss have the most blessed event in all of Religion each day. It is the Saacrifice of the Holy Mass.
  4. We have the Eucharist ( communion) in which the Body & Blood are given to us.
5 We sin, we fail, but thru’; confession and the Eucharist God welcomes us back.
This is briefly why I will NEVER be any thing but a Catholic. And if you are going to trust you imortal SOUL to your research theen - find one that offers you the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. None do but the Catholic church. Dont be bashful, seek the Holy Spirit , He will help you. God Bless You.

  1. I was baptized a Catholic at 2 mos. old. Always attended Mass each sunday.
  2. Never cared for 1 minute any other religion. If you are in a Castle with rooms filled with treasure troves, why leave to stay in a hut.
  3. Why do I love the Catholic Church?
If I had hours upon hours to explain, it still wouldn’t be enough time. The Mass - the glorious Mass with the sacrifice of my darling Lord Jesus Christ and His true presence - even as a child I felt it was majestic!
The Blessed Mother and her role for all women.
St. Joseph, the head of household. How much he has interceded for me in all decisions
The most beautiful prayers in the existance of the world!
The Saints - what virtuous and brave souls who have showed the right way to live our lives
The Pope, priests, religious, the Holy Churches decorated to allow us Catholics to pray with reverance
The scriptures, the miracles, the power, the incredible greatness that is the Catholic Church!
“I bind all my children to the Immaculate Heart of Mary”

Hey sambar,
I am partially a revert. Although I was brought up in the Church Sacraments, it wasn’t until I was in high school that I embraced the Church. I started off reading fiction books steeped Eastern philosophy and religions (looking back) and then I went to radical Protestants books dealing with the supernatural. Finally, I eased from Logic to the Church. Ultimately why did I become a practicing Catholic: Suffering. The Church’s teaching about redemptive suffering united with Christ’s Sacrafice on the Cross and the good that could be brought out of suffering drew me into the Church. Suffering had a purpose and the God granted free Graces through the Church’s Sacraments to live out Love through Mercy and Justice. I Love the Church becuase suffering has a purpose and that we are promised suffering in this life. Thanks and God Bless.

  1. Because I felt drawn to God, could never feel at home in any protestant church and felt this strong “at home” feeling in every catholic church I went into. (I was in many churches as part of an Air Force Honor Guard doing funerals)
  2. I was previously a member of a Baptist Church, Church of Christ and a Four-Square Gospel Church as well as visiting many other christian churches, I never investigated outside christianity, never felt any calling to.
  3. The Catholic Church teaches with authority that dates back historically to before anyone had any ideas of any other “churches”. Everything the Church teaches meshes with the Bible, history and logic, what more could you ask for?

  1. I was baptized as one as an infant. Fell out at the age of 6 for 16 years. I am still looking for a home/church.
  2. If you include being an agnostic for 16 years, then yes ;).
  3. From sources in this forum, it is the most original church.

Hello thread!

Pax Vobis Cum!

Hey, just like to ask my own follow-up questions:

How do you answer atheists or agnostics who question that until you investigated absolutely all the religions of the world, you have no right to claim that your religion is the correct one? Some of them also insisted further than until you investigated a religion other than your own, you can only be “agnostic” to it and not be atheistic.

I answered this by a question somewhat in the same vein: “Well, have you investigated absolutely all the religions of the world and found out they were all fakes?” Yet, somehow I think I should bring out more arguments. What do you think of my answer? How would you confront this?

God love you all!

if I was in a sarcastic mood? I could say “1+1=2, but until I test out all others, i.e. 1+1=4, 1+1=8, 1+1=17, I wouldn’t be sure of the real answer?”

  1. I was born Catholic. The miracles with in the church (look up the lives of the saints, especially St. Padre Pio, and apparitions such as Lourdes, Guadaloupe, and especially Fatima)
  2. Didn’t need to 😛
3)No cotton-candy theology. Sin too bad-hell for you. It has gorgeous traditions and fascinating history. From homosexuality to abortion, the Catholic Church has always stood by its guns, and is the oldest still alive organization on earth.

No choice…Mom & Dad baptised me when I was six weeks old. The real question you should ask me is why did I come back. That’s simple, I learned the truth about the faith and realized what I had been missing.

No, but I did take a hard look at Judaism while I was away from the faith.

What, knowing that God started the faith isn’t a good enough reason? What I love about the faith is it’s simplicity. That may seem odd if you only look at the exterior elements, but once you understand this faith, it’s remarkably steeped in simplicity. Things just make so much sense.

  1. The only way I can answer this is to tell you that I felt called to become Catholic.
I have spent my whole life feeling as though I was missing something important. I tried to fill this void in all the usual ways, but only now know what I was longing for all that time.

After God, I credit my husband for my conversion. He is a wonderful example.
  1. I did all kinds of research (from in depth to just skimming the surface) of many different faiths. I have looked into Orthodoxy (which I was baptized into), different Eastern religions like Bhuddism, all kinds of Protestant denominations, and many new age type movements.
  2. What do I love about the Catholic Church?
It feels like home.

It seems to have answers to any questions I have. (and the answers stand up to logic and history). And don’t misunderstand this… I don’t like all of the answers. I did not choose to become Catholic because it was the easy way. It is very difficult at times, but most things are that are worth it.

I love the 2000 year old history and how matters of faith and morals can’t change.

I hope you continue to look into this beautiful faith. I started out borderline anti-Catholic, so there is hope for anyone!

God love you all!
Ask them to apply this method to fields other than religion. If a scientific theory explains all the available data, is it necessary for each person to thoroughly examine ALL other possible theories anyone has ever proposed, before deciding to treat this theory as true?
Is it somehow dishonest to buy and drive a car when you personally did not invent the wheel and the internal combustion engine? (and maybe don’t even understand how it works or why it’s “better” than other engines?)
You say you married your wife because you love her. How do you know without investigating every other woman in the world, that there is not one whom you would love more than her? (Actually some people seem to be trying to do that.)

“When you’re on a good thing, stick to it.”

“God founded the Catholic Church”. Actually I think that says it all really. No other religion even claims to have been founded by God Himself. (OK there are a few little wacky ones who claim that their founder is God and that he must be given a constant supply of money and virgins.) No purely human institution has lasted 2000 years, or even half that. Some religious traditions are older, but no institutional bodies.

Yes I have had a cursory look at the other main religions of the world. Nearly all of them which have lasted any length of time have either radically changed their basic beliefs several times during their history, or else their beliefs are so amorphous they are more of a loose collection of cultural practices and you can believe just about anything you want to and still say you belong to that religion, even if what you believe directly contradicts what others of that religion believe. The Catholic Church is almost alone in having never changed its basic beliefs.

I’ve also read a lot of criticism of the Church by anti-Catholics. I think “If THAT’s all they can come up with, the Church must be the true religion founded by God.”

Sambar:
  1. Cradle Catholic…but if I wasn’t I’d like to think I’d still end up one. Conversion is a constant as Catholics. We are called to convert our hearts daily in all instances.
  2. Studied other religions: Buddhism, Zen Bud., Taoism, some Protestant ideologies. In the end, the Splendor of Truth, hands down.
  3. What do I love about it? The Holy Eucharist is Jesus Christ!!! And everything else that flow from it.
You sound like someone sincerely in search for Truth. Take your time in studying the CC. It is simple yet complex. It is the greatest adventure you’ll ever get into.

Welcome!

  1. I started looking into it when I started to get serious with my boyfriend (now my husband). I realized that many of my closest friends were Catholic as well. Then as I studied (online, reading books and going to RCIA) I realized that most of what I’d heard about the Catholic Church were lies. As I paid attention at Mass I realized that it’s Biblically based and holds more than the Reformed Church I grew up in. It reaches all my senses to bring me closer to God.
  2. I grew up in another religion. 2 actually. When I was little, we went to the Church of Christ. I looked into that again as an adult but was thoroughly unimpressed. I spent most of my time in the Reformed Church. It didn’t touch me like the Catholic Church does. I have to admit, I didn’t study any others.
  3. I love so much about it! 😃 1st, that the traditions can be traced back to Jesus himself and the people who knew him. The feeling of continuity is awesome! 2nd, that people around the world are all doing the same things in the Mass that we are at home. That gives me such a feeling of unity in the world that’s missing everywhere else. 3rd, it reaches me at all levels of my senses. Where I grew up, it was like sitting in a lecture hall. In the Catholic Church, you get so involved even if you only come to Masses.
I could just go on and on, but I hope this helps! Good luck in your search and God Bless!

  1. Why did you become Catholic?
I became a Catholic originally because I was giving it a second chance. I reverted back to Catholicism (rather, I would say converted) from my Pentecostal doctrination for months, and before that, 2 years of straight Wicca. I then realised the scriptural aspect of Catholicism that dawned on me as a luminescent beam.
  1. Did you do research in to other religions first?
For sure I did. I could never find a religion that would perfectly suit me. From 11 years old, I went into Buddhism, New Age, then Wicca in serious studies for 2 years. I was saved by my friend who brought me into her Pentecostal church, and then I took up RCIA and got confirmed this Easter! 😃 I was quite attracted to Islam, and moreso Baha’ism for a long while, and I was tempted to become Baha’i.
  1. And other than your believe that God stated the Catholic church, why else would you reccomened it to someone else: in other words, What do you love about it?
What I love about the Catholic Church, is that first of all, Christianity is the only religion to regard Jesus as a Divine Being, as God who dwelt among us in flesh. Second, the Catholic church has been through trials and tribulations, attack and defense. But what I love most is the reverence and the high stance on pro-life, despite the lack of fire in our teenage generation, truth has never been sweeter until Catholicism had truly entered my life.
