Thought this thread had died! Our mother is Jerusalem. Did you know that ?
Galatians 4:26 NASB
But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother.
So, what does your statement prove? That we can`t have more than one mother…?
What does the word “Covenant” mean? It doesn
t mean a contract; its much deeper than that. It means a sacred family oath/bond.Our relationship with God, and “others” should not be some “Me
n Jesus” thing, ignoring everybody else. The Catholic Church is a FAMILY affair: each of us has the Father, the Kinsman/Redeemer Eldest Brother Who bought us out of bondage with His own Blood, countless other brothers and sisters who have been redeemed as well … and a Mother who also had to be saved. Family Family Family. The Inner Life of The Blessed Trinity is FAMILY. We should be reflecting that.
“…He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son!’ Then He said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother!’”: John 19:26-27 RSV. Mary was NOT John`s biological mother.
The title “beloved disciple” should include all of us.
In Luke 1:48, Mary, herself, says that she will be honoured: “…For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.”. RSV.
As a Person, Jesus is God The Son: The Eternal Word. So, Mary deserves recognition for bearing Him.
Jesus dearly loved and honoured His mother, and always will. So, we
re just following our Eldest Brothers example. She leads us to her Son.
“Mary is the star that shines at night
Guiding us to Jesus, our True Light.”: two lines from a hymn.
It
s unfortunate that the OP had a skewed idea of Marys continuing role, and gave this thread its name. But theres no point in your "Concordancing" the name "mother", and digging out a relatively obscure passage which isnt relevant. You may as well say: “Call no woman on earth ‘Mother’, for you have only one Mother, which is the New Jerusalem.”.Anybody can “prove” anything from Scripture by quoting it out of context. i`ll stick with the Church with her 2,000 years of Wisdom, and all of the other gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Church shows us the whole Panorama; not just isolated bits of it.
When you reject the Church, you join the ranks of the 30,000+ denominations which each claim to go by the Bible, and to be right. Spiritual Anarchy!
