Why did Byzantine Catholicism only took hold in Western Ukraine?

Why did Byzantine Catholicism only took hold in Western Ukraine? Why that part of Europe honestly. Why are they a minority in Orthodox countries? I’m reading in Wikipedia and I’m wondering why they have such a strong institutional power in Western Ukraine. There’s a special section of Ukrainian Catholicism in the Traditional Catholic Wikipedia page.

The Union of Brest occurred in 1595-6 with a portion of the Ukrainian and Belorussian bishops in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. That area was partitioned later.
