Why Did G-d Create Angels?

Does Catholicism offer a reason why angels were created? Obviously, G-d doesn’t need them since He can take care of the Universe and its beings by Himself. So is it the same reason why G-d created Man, out of His love, or is there another reason? I’m aware of the concept of “guardian angel” and the fact angels are regarded as our helpers; but why can’t G-d Himself perform these functions? In addition, is it sinful not to believe in angels?

As you said, God created angels probably for the same reason he created us. While we can never truly understand why God wanted to make other beings, we do know that he did create angels. To deny angels, would be to go against the Bible and many other experiences throughout history.

For the completeness of the universe. Without angels, we would have physical creatures without spirits, like rocks, trees, and dogs; and creatures that are part bodily and part spiritual, like men; but no creatures that are totally spiritual, like angels.

As I am sure you understand, God has dominion over all things through His Word, in His Presence. And God gives dominion in His domain to the living He gives Life to. For the living must have place to be, in order to live, and be what they are.

In the case of man:

Gen:1:
26: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29: And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

God gave dominion to man in the earth through His Word in His Presence and if you notice, man is to hear what God has to say to Man and behold. Therefore this dominion given, is in His Presence according to His Word.

Notice that the angels have the same, in His Presence. They see the face of God and hear His Word. Even the enemy has seen the face of God and has heard His Word in God’s Presence. But they disagreed with God’s Choice expressed, His Word, and chose otherwise, and lost there place in the Presence of God, which is forever. (The Presence of God is forever, not being in the Presence of God can also be forever, and man is to be in the earth in the Presence of God forever in order for man to live)

Even at the tree of knowledge of good and evil, it is evident that the serpent was well aware of what God said to Adam, but the serpent tested for what Eve didn’t know about what God said.

God created, and gave dominion to living things, in His creation, that He gave Life to, according to His Word, in His Presence.
