Why did God choose the Jews from all to be His people?

None of the speculations on this thread are satisfying for me at least.

The Jews (and us!) are all descended from Abraham, so the question becomes why was Abraham chosen? I think the answer is plain–Abraham had faith in God when he was approached. He was willing to do what God asked of him even to the point of slaying his own son. Mary made a similar choice, and became our heavenly mother.

Family has always been important part of God’s plan, and that Abraham’s descendants should inherit the “spoils” of his faith is natural.

It’s always seemed a bit unfair to me that God pushed out the peoples of Canaan and gave their land to the Jews. Why didn’t God lead them to a new place instead of pushing out the tribes that lived in that land of milk and honey? Of course those tribes were all idol worshipers who did some pretty foul things—so they had it coming??
