Why did God create us?

Hello, I just had a question, I was wondering if someone could please explain to me why God placed us on this earth? And why we are to be judged. If we did not exist, there would be nothing for Him to judge. Please help me to understand why the world is going to face what humanity is going to face. I am not ready to meet Him because I know I have failed Him miserably in life.
