My 7 year old daughter asked, “Why did God make us?” He doesn’t need us or anything. He couldn’t have done it out of boredom. Is it that since God is love that, like weeds in a garden, life will sprout wherever there is fertile soil? No, the Bible says that God created the Heavens and the Earth. He willed us into being for some reason. Why create something with a will that you only hope will choose to love you back?

The Baltimore Catechism answers the question this way:
God made me to know him, to love him, and to serve him in this world, and to be happy with him forever in heaven.
As God is perfectly happy and does not strictly need us, he made us for our own benefit, not his. Our existence is a manifestation of his love.
