Hi All

Why did God choose to use prophets to relay information to us?

Prophets as human beings are fallible agents. We all make mistakes.

As can be seen from the world’s religions, people in ancient history claimed to hear God and speak on his behalf.

The Bible and the Quran both claim to be God breathed. The word of God.

Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Joseph Smith, etc. have all claimed to hear God.

Christians say Jesus was God. So that his disciples directly heard from God.

Some people today claim to hear God’s voice and speak for God. Others have the Messiah complex believing that they are the world’s saviour.

Why should God choose to speak through certain individuals - prophets, priests, holy men?

A more efficient method of communication would surely be a direct method.

God could by-pass the need for intermediaries, and speak directly to you and me.

He could speak the same message to every person, everywhere, at the same time.

This would clear up the confusion over who has the correct message.

There would be one world religion and everyone would have the exact same understanding.

The message would be free from contradiction and error. There would be no doubt over God’s existence and over the requirements needed for salvation.

Your thoughts…

Why did God communicate through prophets? I guess he had his reasons.

Why didn’t he communicate directly? Eventually, God **did speak directly with Jesus Christ. Jesus is God!

Recall that one of the disciples was asking Jesus to SHOW him the Father. Jesus answered that he had been with them so long and still didn’t recognize him. Christ explained that when they saw Christ, they were seeing the Father, since the Father was in him.**

Hi CW, but you have other verses which directly contradict this, where anthor author makes clear Jesus is not the Father. For example Jesus says “why do you call me God? There is none good but God”, clearly implying that he wasnt God.

Jesus himself wrote no gospel. Instead decades later Paul, who never met Jesus, wrote some letters based on personal revelation. Decades later still anonymous people wrote gospel accounts, which contradict each other and contain errors.

Why not avoid all the confusion, and give a revelation direct to each and every one of us. God could speak to you or me, or every living person, explainly clearly the correct message without an intermediary and any chance for it to go wrong.

Among other reasons God used the prophets because the normal means of communication ( Priesthood, Kingship ) were corrupt and ineffective at times.

First, it’s a matter of faith. Second, there must be consistency,
so if the Bible is God-breathed, the Qur’an must not contradict
the Bible, but of course everyone knows it does. The Bible has,
throughout thousands of years, remained consistent, despite of
having coming from multiple men , unlike the Book of Mormon
which came out of the mind of one.

God also gave us that test of a prophet, which Joseph Smith fails,
Jehovah’s Witnesses too, (did Muhammad?), so that’s helpful too.

Why does God send prophets? Because that’s how God chooses
to operate with his creation, we have absolutely no right to, in any
way, question God in his methods.
