Why did Jesus choose bread to give us (himself), why not fishor olives or figs or whatever? I know John 6, why is it his flesh. I guess what I mean is if the bread turns into his flesh, why does it look like bread, if after the consecration took place and it “looked” like flesh instead of “looking” like bread wouldn’t more people believe in the real presence? Why does Jesus hide from us.

I don’t know why bread accept it was probably heavily symbolic of the time as a main source of sustenance. So Jesus saying that he is the bread of life is saying that he is the source of life.

I have a metaphorical interpretation of it that is not physical and does not replace holy communion. But i guess “drinking the cup of the lord” meant doing the will of the lord.
And the bread of life could mean christs words.

So I think that in a sense these passages could also mean that when you read and feast on the Words and teachings of the lord Jesus Christ and do his will you will have and find eternal life.

Just a thought. But it helps me

A lot of it is symbolism.

In the Old Testament, the Jews were lead out of egypt and fed manna which gave them life.

In the New Testament, we are lead away from sin, and fed the bread which gives us life.

Also with Jesus being the High Priest of the Church, his actions fit in with things that were hinted at int he Old Testament.
Genesis 14:18 But Melchisedech the king of Salem, bringing forth bread and wine, for he was the priest of the most high God,
Plus Jesus was our Passover, and that is a feast of unleavened bread.

There are all kinds of reasons that are possible, but we know not the mind of our Lord.

I personally like the mystery of it. I don’t know why, I just know he did, and I am satisfied with that. Faith doesn’t need to be rationalized.

If He thundered and did a miraculous light show, many would worship the spectacle, and not the Creator.
Why does Jesus hide from us.
He hid His divinity, when He became one of us.
Why? Because that’s the way he chose to reveal Himself.

And that’s good enough answer for me.
