Why did Jesus need to be sacrificed?

Hi everyone. I had another question which was why was Jesus’s sacrifice necessary for our forgiveness? Why couldn’t God forgive us without the sacrifice? Thanks in advance.

God could have forgiven us any way that He chose. It would have been easier for Him to simply tell us, "Say that you’re sorry and you’ll be forgiven", but it wouldn’t have the same power as what He chose to do.

Even though we constantly sin against Him, God is so willing to forgive us and so desperately wants to spend eternity with us that He was willing to prove it by taking on flesh. In becoming human, teaching us, and finally suffering and dying for us, He perfectly showed us how willing the wronged (God) is to forgive the wrongdoer (us).

One would normally think that the Servant should be willing to give up his life to prove to his Master that he’s worthy of forgiveness, but in this case the Master died for the Servant in order to prove how far His mercy extends and how deep His love runs.

God loves us too much to have made His forgiveness so plain.

Thank you so much for your reply, you helped clarify for me. Thank you once again

Lets see if we can come up with an analogy that helps us deal with the concept here.

I am a father and have a son. He is playing and breaks a window pane. The glass shards are all over and a gaping hole remains in the window.
I am the father and can forgive the child, make him clean the glass and make him pay for the replacement glass, by taking from his allowance.
He (my son) does not have the capacity to pay the full price of the damage done. And we are speaking of a worthless piece of glass here.

When we sin, we shatter something much, much, more than glass. We break the union we have with GOD. We no longer can receive, the Sanctifying Grace that allows us to be in Union with HIM.
And like the child we have no means of making up for the damage done. We cannot buy the glass.

Like us doing for our child, GOD Himself paid the price of the glass.
Because we could not.
The wager of sin is death but GOD did not want us to die, but to live. Live with HIM, don’t throw that away.

Thank you for your reply. I have a question, what would happen to the people of the Old Testament after they died? How were they forgiven for their sins?

They were sort of trapped. Not being able to enter Paradise but not damned to hell.
Jesus went and preached to them and those who accepted His invitation were taken to heaven. It is in the New Testament.
The Jews knew that they could not enter Heaven before the Christ came.

Respectfully opinion and interesting God does just that within His Spoken Word…My yoke is not heavy…

.🤔:slightly:…Repent Repent return to Me and I will return to you, does he not?

John Baptist even calling out …Repent Repent Repent, why?

The whole Bible within His Spoken Word, tells us… how He will forgive us? How to return to Him?

Our Heavenly Father has always provided the Way of Return to Him…He provides does he not? Must be very important also our Heavenly Father…Repeats all throughout the whole Bible…

Return to Me and I Will return to you…will forgive our transgressions
Hosea 6:1, 14:1-2
Joel 2:13
Zechariah 1:3
Psalm 78:34
Nehemiah 1:9
Job 22:23
Jeremiah 24:7, 15:19, 3:12-22
Lamentations 3:40
Joshua 7:20
1 Samuel 16:24
Matthew 27:3-4
Isaiah 59:20 “A redeemer will come to Zion and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob declare’s the Lord” those -who turn-?
Isaiah 55:7,
Isaiah 31:6 Return to him from whom you have deeply defected Oh sons of Israel…
Malachi 3:7
Deut 4:30
Acts 16:31
Psalm 51:13
1 Samuel 7:3 , 16:24
2 Chronicles 15:4

Not forgetting King David, repented with pure intentions truly sorry… Our Heavenly Father then states… King David a man after God’s own heart…

Peace 🙂

The reason is every sin has temporal damage that must be served in addition to forgiveness (one of the main reasons of Purgatory). So Jesus died not just to forgive us (because God has the power to forgive us anyway), but Jesus died specifically to sacrifice Himself for the serving of all temporal damage of sin. This is why we have Heaven and Purgatory as options besides hell after we die because by the grace of Jesus, He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Interestingly, God demanded that Abraham not sacrifice Isaac but tested him on the matter.
