Why did Mary endure labor pains?

This is a question that has bothered me for as long as I can remember. Why is it that in stories of Mary giving birth and also in Revelation, do they lead us to believe she went through labor and pain? Mary was conceived without sin. The punishment for Eve’s sin in the garden of Eden was to labor when giving birth. So why would our Blessed Mother have to labor in pains to have Jesus?
