The Mormons use CC460 on people like Tony…they don’t bother to research the foot notes, or read the entire teachings on Christ in the Catholic Church prior to CC460.

The Catholic faith is about context; about Joseph Smith’s ‘revelations’, conjecturing at best. To disregard documented history and to choose to believe in the claims of Joseph Smith and Bringham Young and to ignore all the extenuating circumstances surrounding their claims…and to then insist the Catholic Catechism is in some way bolstering their beliefs…is part of the whole mentality.

For me, because I am not a former Mormon, I am limited in what I can say. I renewed my prayers yesterday for the Mormon people and their ideas that revelation is constantly unfolding…so far, I haven’t heard anything new about Christ that is credible or consistent.

Yes, Tony888 has been getting quotes from so-called Mormon apologetics sites and not siting from where he is copying/pasting.

I’m done with Tony. He doesn’t really read or respond to anything I write - just keeps pounding on what he believes is a proof-text for exaltation (CCC 460). No matter how carefully we explain and document the Catholic understanding, he just keeps on like a broken record CCC 460… CCC 460… CCC 460…

Mormons only know how to proof-text, and their proof-texts are never on point.

Paul (Formerly LDS, now happily Catholic)
I’m sure Tony888 is just trying to proselyte without appearing to be proselyting. But, however you look at it, he/she is not being honest.

As I’ve stated elsewhere, the RCC clearly teaches All Catholics may receive posh mansions and live around the corner from the throne of God after we die

In as much as you believe my logically created RCC doctrine, we can also believe your statement on the LDS.

The metaphore of God’s house has many rooms, works fine in the modern age, where God’s Universe has many galaxies with billions and billions of planets.
Please answer the question in a DIRECT MANNER. do Mormons believe that when they die they become a god of their own planet? simple question

When I was LDS, yes Mormons believed that. Was it taught? Mmmm, the Lorenzo Snow couplet would seem suggest that, yes. But all the Mormons I knew believed it yes back then.

The fast forward sometime in the 90’s (or was in even early 21st century?) when Larry King did an interview with then President Gordon B Hinkley. He seemed to walk back that long held belief. I was stunned watching him walk that back in such a public way

It should be said that Hinkley’s tenure as president/prophet was marked by several things. 1)a great deal of temple building 2)He was very much the PR person and was trying to move Mormonism well into mainstream Christianity. The idea of becoming gods and having one’s own planet had to be buried or shied away from since it is such a fringe idea compared to traditional Christian thinking.

I have seen some people suggest that pinning down LDS theology and doctrine is like trying to nail jell-o to a wall. I think it’s a pretty accurate analogy.

There are several well held beliefs that the LDS GA’s allow it’s membership to hold even if it’s not “official” doctrine

The idea of becoming gods/goddess and having own planets.

That one of the things that make an current day “apostle” in the quorum of the 12 an “especial witness” is, is that they get an actual visitation from the resurrected Christ in the Temple following the reception of the second endowment. (as per McConkie, but that may have been wiped out of his books)

When GA’s (esp. members of 1st Pres and the 12) are asked, have you ever seen Christ, they never answer that directly, allowing that long held LDS mythology to continue. But they KNOW that mythology exist (or at least it did when I was LDS and it was a very strong belief). They allow that myth to continue.

I wonder how a planet would rotate if its god doesn’t take ownership for its mis direction.

Aside from the response’s and correct answers already given there is also another truth to consider.

By God becoming the Son of Man He also placed another link in the ladder so man could more easily comprehend Gods message and come to God. The Messianic Prophecy was also completed. So a few realitys are going on all at once.

So we see another way which God decends in order for man to ascend. It would be correct to state the Holy Spirit is another such link. The recent events of the BVM are the indication of the Holy Spirit intercession through the BVM to mankind. Same process we see at work.

In essense this is how Christianity works through intercession. Its a vertical ladder of ascending and decending. When one decides to enter the CC the process of others decending so you may ascend takes place also.

Anyway just a passing thought.

Peace

I am slowing getting through a study of the Mass by Pope Benedict. The Mass is in 3 levels.

I am a cradle Catholic. You get an innate sense after awhile to pick up on something that isn’t quite right, this happening not from what I read from Mormons, but in the past right after Vatican II, some priests not teaching in the spirit of the truth…subtle little twists…

I brought this up on another thread…

www.mormonthink.com/lying.htm

I think Tony needs prayers because he’s in the whirlpool being sucked in, and doesn’t realize it.

For people who were in Mormonism, it is nothing to be ashamed of, the feeling you bought into the lies.

Rejoice and be glad, for today is the day the Lord has made! He makes all things new, He draws all men and creation up to HImself in the Resurrected Lord.

You are hearing about the New Evangelization.

We Catholics have been in passive mode for so long, taking in all the malignment, being painted with the same brush by false theologies and practices in our Church, to sharing in the scandal of clergy abuse.

These are great and terrible chastisements.

But now is the time for the desert of Catholic faith – in this country – to bloom.

Now is the time for the desert to bloom the flower of Jesus Christ.

It is time now for we Catholics to begin our own offensive…but no shouting on the street corners, no invalidating, maligning, or taking the place of God to condemn or label other Christians and people at large.

Instead, we put on the shield of faith, draw on the Sacred Heart of Jesus to make our hearts like His, and to bring Christ to others for their needs, their dignity, their pace…in peace, no pushing, manipulating, no maligning, but sharing the new life of Christ. I can see those who have experienced Mormonism to grow in knowledge of the Catholic faith – and the liturgy and sacraments – and help Mormons come to the truth of Jesus Christ, True Man and True God.

Yes, well spoken sister!

We fall into bureaucracy, this includes myself, but also our ministries, parishes and Church. It is our own doing, but the world itself encourages us in this direction.

The existential must be recognized first. All people seek after that something that corresponds to their heart. Of course we know what that is, and it is not a what but a Who. We must return, wounded, to Christ. Only in this will the world be healed, and only in this will our Faith evangelize others.

God bless you Kathleen. 🙂

Thank you, Rebecca…

The other point is this in regards to theosis…

All of us with Christian baptism are then Alter Christus in the world…not just the priest. And we are all carrying the Risen Lord, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity…This carrying the Lord in the tabernacles of our hearts also calls a renewal in all Catholic hearts to see each other through the eyes of the Lord.

Then the communion becomes actualized…we all together in the Lord and He together with us…all one…

Experiencing ecclesial communion…not based on clubs, actions, events, accomplishments…but just our state of being with the Lord is at the same time, part of our service to the Lord; the other part is our worship of Him in the Lord Jesus…it is mystical…and there needs to be catechesis in helping the renewal of both the understanding of the Mass and the Christian Brotherhood…
