Why did they change the Mass?

Impassioned message which timed out. Bro is going to listen to the Holy Spirit and keep it short. Long and the short of it…John I have absolutely no problem with the other changes you brought up when we were in high school. For me, it all comes down to my heritage as a Catholic. My folks had to attend Mass along the hedge rows in Ireland. That Mass wasn’t in English. My folks got thrown out of Acadie (Nova Scotia) by the British because they were Catholics. That Mass wasn’t in English. I wanted my kids to know what it meant to be Catholic and to appreciate their heritage. That’s why we’ve driven to our cathedral parish since 1983 - 25 miles one way.

I am much closer to you in the social ministries abstract than you would believe. I just believe in our heritage and I wanted my kids to be exposed to that heritage.

The young folks on this forum have discovered that heritage. I applaud their efforts.

Baloney. If that was the case then the section on Bishops having abilities to adjust would not have been there nor would the study commission have ever been appointed. The 65 Mass was an implementation of the idea of SC but SC says nowhere that it will be the final form.

Unlike you I did not want to stay in darkness.

You really don’t get it. I understand because you are uninformed.
And this was as far as I had to read. I have had it with you and your personal attacks and condescending attitude, as if you personally hold the keys to the kingdom. I “want to stay in the darkness.”? I am “uninformed”? How totally arrogant to think you can judge my or anyone else’s knowledge or motivation. How very well you represent Catholic moral values here.

You can go wandering off wherever you like. I’ll stay with the Church.

I don’t really think we’re so much different at all Bro. We might have some different liturgical preferences, but I would venture to guess that we may hold to a lot of the other traditions that we were brought up with and that helped create our Catholic identity.

The fact that both of my kids are still practicing Catholics, bringiing up their own children to be the same, at an age where I had left the Church to not return for many years, speaks to their love of God and Church. They may not have as firm a grasp on some of what you and I took for granted as “tradition”, but they are firmly rooted in a love for, rather than fear of God. I doubt very much that they would resonate much with the TLM as they both participate fully in the Mass as the Council Fathers envisioned and I don’t think they would respond well to what we were brought up with. In saying that I don’t at all knock the participation of silence to which others feel called.

And by the way, we too make a drive–45 minutes each way–to find that Mass where we feel lifted up with the angels. It’s actually a slightly longer drive for the kids, and that’s after getting up earlier to get their young children ready.

I find great joy personally in knowing that finally each of us should be able to have that ability to worship God in the way our hearts call us.

Peace to you Brother!
