Oh dear Hockeygirl - do not despair!
In the meantime keep in mind that the actual date was never recorded for a reason. Jesus’ birth was hidden* from His birth. Please see Matthew 2:16. In that verse we find Herod killing all the children from age two years and under because he never found out when Jesus was born so he killed everyone*!
Jesus’ Birth WAS HIDDEN from the eyes of mortal man at that time and only those who were invited to see Him and witness His glory as the Babe knew of it and they kept it secret because Jesus’ life as well as Mary’s and Joseph’s and probably theirs too for knowing, was in grave danger. They fled to Egypt. The rest of their lives, the Holy Family’s, remained hidden till Jesus was found in the Temple about His Father’s business one year after the Passover. He stayed hidden until He began His ministry. It is my contention that if God wanted us to know more about those years of hiddenness, He would have included it in His inspirations given the authors of our Scriptures.
Scholarship has made the best educated guesses it can.
The important thing is that He was born! Our salvation had begun. The contention about the dates, if you ask me, is just excuse to argue with the Church and possibly point out her “errors” by some who make their living doing so.
But as I’ve said before, I’m no expert; just a woman and these are my opinions. Some facts were stated though.

Never say never. You’ll find out for sure when you get to Heaven! No, I don’t think knowing his actual birthday makes any difference. It was just a question that entered my mind. I was thinking about all the other things that were preserved. It’s interesting that we know certain things i.e. names of Mary’s parents, but not others. I was just curious if anyone had ever asked thier priests or pastors this question and what answers (if any) you were given.
Sigh…I need to stop my brain from wondering things that may never be known.
Peace, and a Merry Christmas to you all.
