Why do Christians believe Jesus is the Messiah?

the first people to accept Jesus were jews…Paul was even a Pharisee…so why would jews, who had a different idea about the Messiah, believe Jesus? there must be a reason…and these jews often expressed their jewish ideas to Jesus ( i remember now the question about their victory by Peter maybe? which showed they had a wordly view about it) and Jesus used to explain the scriptures for them…So if jews back then and now believed/are coming to believe in Jesus, there must be a reason.
