I was thinking of how we are familiar with women covering their heads in church. Then it occurred to me that Jewish men cover their heads in the synagogue. In the New Test we read “A man ought not to cover his head because he is the image of God and the reflection of his glory” 1 Cor 11:7 Now why would Paul write that if the custom was for Jewish men to cover their head in the synagogue?

Paul was addressing a particular problem in the corinthian church, which was a predominantly gentile church. Jewish custom would not be under consideration. He was addressing the peculiar customs concerning the covering of the head in the corinthian culture. Paul ends his comments on the subject in verse 16 “But if one is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor have the churches of God.”
