Now I am not looking for argument of hate and trolling, but why is it that all moral religions argue with each other who is right and who is wrong?
To put it simply why is it that most strict followers of religions take a ignorant tone with others of a separate faith. I for one don’t believe any good standing religion is wrong, I believe that if god is not so simple minded to cast people of different faith into hell or such a place if it exist or what not, but overall I believe god doesn’t care what religion you are as long as you do be a good person and follow the the simple commandment: Do not steal.
I believe one of the biggest problems is that others dislike others for their beliefs and ideas, It shouldn’t matter if Jesus was the son of god or not, or that Muhammad spoke to god, or even if Abraham was willing to follow such an violent act to please god. What I believe that would please any god is if Mankind was able to flourish with no ignorance or hatred towards others due to their mentality on religion. People look to deep inside a hole in the ground to find light and while their at it they forget that the light is right above them, It means that you shouldn’t go digging in on the truth when the truth is so obvious. Just go with what Jesus stood for, be righteous, be kind, and be tolerant of each other.

Good post! 👍

I don’t know that people do actually fight about religion. They discuss belief and in discussing it they are interested in truth. In my ecumenical relationships, I find it very beneficial to concentrate on what I have in common with others, but this does not mean I do not hold to my Catholic faith as being true. Part of being a philosopher: a lover of wisdom, is to search out and test what is true.

👍 You said it!

I think it would help to define religion and morality. I take religion to be a set of teachings which are purported to have a supernatural or divine origin (I include Buddhism and Hinduism in this definition, along with the monotheistic religions) and I take morality to be the core values and principles which guide our everyday conduct and decision-making.

Not all of the content of each major world religion can be reduced to moral percepts. Nor is the content of each religion only about morals. But I think it is clear that all major religions have certain moral principles they feel genuine believers should follow in their everyday conduct and decision making. One example from Christianity is ‘Love thy neighbour.’ A Christian is likely to argue this percept is critical to any moral way of life that claims to be ‘Christian’ in content and action.

People fight (or argue) about moral issues because our moral beliefs are to some degree subjective and because of this, people disagree on moral questions and how they should be answered. These disagreements may be fairly calm and minor, but in other cases (on issues such as abortion or capital punishment) they can lead to very heated and even abusive argument where people’s positions on the issue are polarised against each other. In abortion for example, some see it as a legal right; others see it as a species of homicide. Religious teachings on moral issues can also vary, from religion to religion, and also within a major religion itself, depending on the denomination or theological school. Islamic law for example, is divided into different schools, which give sometimes conflicting rulings on a legal or moral issue.

There is also the question of conscience in any moral issue. Ultimately the moral world is not one of abstract principles, but one of action where we have to make choices based on our values and principles. We need to examine our own decisions and how we make them in the light of what we allow to influence us as a person, at different levels, including religious teachings.

There is absolute truth. To say that it doesn’t matter whether or not Jesus is the Son of God is like saying that it doesn’t matter whether or not the sun is really hot. To live in relativism is to refute your own theory because anything that you say can never be absolutely true. It can only be whatever you believe it to be.

Now, should people fight over religious beliefs. Well yes and no. Yes, we should uphold the truth but this should always be done in the love of Christ. He confronted the many Jewish sects of His day but He still loves everyone. No, we should not have bloodshed unless one dies for his own faith. And this is where I most disagree with your “It doesn’t matter”. It is because of absolute truth that martyrs gave up their lives to those very people that believe that the only way to suppress another’s belief is to kill or torture them. And, no, I do not agree with that…God Bless… teachccd 🙂

I disagree with the OP. (Though I don’t think I can give a good explanation, so I’ll just state it).

Because it’s the only thing that’s important in this world. If Jesus was God, then we will all live forever, and how we lead our lives in this world will determine whether we spend that forever in heaven or hell.

But of course I assume we are talking about those willing to discuss, not yell or get angry in a debate.
