Long before I came back to the Catholic Church, after seeking God/Truth for myself in a variety of places which later included a stint in Protestantism, I was given arguably the most profound experience of God a human could have while on this planet. God’s purpose is to lead us to Himself, first of all, not to religion.
The purpose of the Church is to “get us to Him”, so to speak. And He established a Church for that purpose even if I hadn’t recognized its value at the time, or realized the affect its teachings had had on me while young. God works in mysterious ways and in the end, to my surprise, I found myself back at the doors of the RCC many years later.
BTW, none of us, as individuals, necessarily have it all perfectly right; our personal theological understanding can be skewed somewhat-or a lot- regardless of the correctness of the teachings of our Church. God works with and through imperfect beings. Again, the ultimate purpose is for us to come to know Him, a tall order no matter how we cut it.
