Why do some Protestants treat Mary like she is nothing

Show me where Jesus says it’s ok if the head of any institution, religious or otherwise, openly says they have the same authority as God.
There’s a lot of stuff in your post that is either gross exaggeration or outright misrepresentation, but this is perhaps the most egregious. I challenge you to find a Catholic document that states the Pope is as powerful as God. You won’t find one. If you’d like to discuss the validity of each of your charges feel free to start a thread. We Catholics will be happy to answer them.

Again, please stay on topic.

Stop with the sola scriptura, please, RTB. Otherwise, show me where it says you’re right.

Show me where Jesus said it’s ok if man changes God’s appointed Sabbath day to another day in the week that suits their needs.
OK, so you are either a Seventh Day Adventist or a Jehovah’s Witness. That would explain your ignorance and vitriol. Which one is it?

Perhaps it has something to do with pride and dominance ingrained from the dawn of man. We carry the genetics of providers back to antiquity. The rest of the family was dependent on the mature male. This time it is he who needs help. The very idea that a mere woman can intercede and make a difference in someone’s lives is hard to take.

But the reasoning is there and quite acceptable. Who is better at persuading someone of one’s request than that person’s mother?. Which Mother can sway her Son(Cana) to have something changed than a mother who is dearly loved by him?.

And the most awesome thing is that she herself, not looking for anything for herself gave us 15 promises that she will help if we are sincere and change our lives for the better. Lastly, when a child does something wrong, what does a mother say to him, that if he tries to better himself and is sincere she will allow him what he desires?. To think that she considers us her children, is a true blessing.

Q: Why do some Protestants treat Mary like she is nothing?
A: Pure anti-Catholicism. Protestants treat her like nothing, because Catholics treat her like something. If Catholics like it, they hate it. If Catholics do it, they don’t do it. If Catholics believe it, they don’t believe it.

They take it literally when Jesus said, “Call no man Father” but they don’t take it literally when Jesus said, “For My Flesh is real food, and my Blood is real drink.” Anti-Catholicism. It’s the opposite of what Catholics do.

Revelation 22: 18 & 19

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
And just what “book” is being referred to here? Exodus? Joshua? If not, what’s your point in citing them?
Luke 5:16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much
Do you understand it to mean that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous woman availeth naught?

You just gave the description of my protestant family members who follow the most ignorant and fundamentalist sects.

I am neither nor vitriol.

I simply gave the reason why Protestants don’t espouse Mary and I was told I need help interpreting the bible. Then another person didn’t like my biblical answers and I guess thinks the bible isn’t the only doctrine of God.

I have nothing against people that are catholic. I think the entire church was setup as a way to conquer and conquer it did. Napoleon put an end to the church having a state-hood and Mussolini restored it.

““Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” II Peter 1:20.
But of course that doesn’t apply to protestants, as they’re all led by the “Holy Ghost” to give their own interpretation in every Bible verse, throwing in the trash can 2.000 years of Tradition.
Nevermind that they don’t ever agree between themselves in any topic, as the “Holy Ghost” wish to guide every one of them in different interpretations and cause the creation of thousands of heretical sects.

Man is warned in different places of the bible not to tamper with the word of God which would include the every book of the bible.

Galations 1:6-9

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Here’s a thought experiment: Suppose Mary had died in childbirth. How would God’s plan of salvation be any different? Christ would still have been a perfect sacrifice for sin, and his Church would still have been founded. So whatever benefit there may be in looking to Mary as either Paragon or Intercessor, as far as salvation is concerned she became largely irrelevant the moment she gave birth. And if that is your overarching focus, well, Mary does not matter much more than Abraham, or Job, any other Biblical figure of faith.
I am a ex protestant. For one thing, protestants tend to equate prayer to worship. Therefore, saying that one prays to Mary could lead to a misunderstanding that we worship her. Its not hard for me as a ex protestant at all to see why a lot of protestants think Catholics worship Mary. Some Catholic’s, in my opinion, do go overboard with the Marian devotion. I have also noticed that this seems to be more common for Mexican and other Latino Catholics then, say, white American Catholics. It was very weird to me to see people kneeling in front of statues while praying when I first started going to a Catholic parish. Its just not something protestants understand. Most have no idea what the difference between a Statue, Idol and Icon are. There are many reasons why protestants can wrongly assume Catholics worship Mary. That is why it is important to know our Faith to be able to explain that we do not and explain what we really do believe. Jeeze… I once on these forums saw a thread where a older Catholic man was insisting that we do worship Mary because in the old days the word worship did not just mean “Latria” but also veneration  Yeah, I wonder how many protestans this guy convinced that Catholics worship Mary lol

They treat her like she is not important because to them she has no role in their salvation. Bringing Jesus into the world does not count because God could have came another way. In fact, as another poster already mentioned, it seems like sometimes protestants try to kind of offset Catholic devotion to Mary by ignoring her completely except around Christmas. Not to mention that not a lot is written about Mary in The Bible and The Bible is of course everything in the protestant world. Not to downplay how important it is to The Catholic Church but your average protestant holds The Bible up higher than the average Catholic unfortunately and The Bible does not talk about Mary a lot. So, those are some reasons. I would love to go further into this but i need to walk a couple dogs right now. God bless

The Catholic Church decided which books were canonical, brother.
Your KJV have not fallen from the sky with footnotes.

Clearly God fulfilled his promise when he said his Word would last forever 🙂

That doesn’t mean all people will adhere to it.

I am related to Protestants (I’m obviously a catholic lol) but seriously they treat Mary like she isn’t even important. Then they go on to say we worship her… where does this stem from? I’ve heard it from multiple people
It is a long standing anti-Catholic inculturation. Sola Scriptura has spawned this attitude.

Most Protestants have been wrongly informed about what the CC believes and teaches, the idea that we worship Mary is one of those.

You think the “gospel” referenced in Gal. 1:6-9 is Matthew, Mark, Luke and/or John? Don’t be an idiot, RTB. Paul was referencing the “gospel” of the Judaizers. And you know it. How dare you pervert Paul’s words into support for your thesis?

This sounds like one of the most reasonable and accurate explanation.
