I’m very frustrated when it comes to finding good music I listen to. I can spend hours on YouTube looking through songs, and in the end I end up with just 2/3 songs. Very inefficient and doesn’t last me for long. But I need music to listen to because I’m very sensitive to it, and nothing changes my mood better than an upbeat song.
However, so much modern songs either contain profanity or refer to unchaste situations. These get filtered out first, but then there are the songs that turn out to have subtle anti-religious elements upon further listening, and I to delete them. I don’t like all popular music either, some of it is just too shallow.
Christian music is in the large part inadequate. I sometimes listen to a Christian radio station, and they also play “positive” songs from mainstream artists (btw they’re definition of “positive” is getting looser all the time, I recently looked up one of those mainstream songs and it contained at least 2 expletives, and this is coming from a station that prides itself on “safe” lyrics). Well, whenever a mainstream song comes on I can immediately tell in most cases, because the sound quality is better than in Christian contemporary, there is more emotion in the music and the lyrics aren’t built from clichés. Moreover, I find a lot of Christian music to be irreverent or made by people with little understanding of the faith.
Christian music does give me hope though . . . hope that it’s possible for anyone to fulfil their dreams of becoming a musician, even if they have zero talent!!
Ok, many of you here would probably like classical music. I, myself, am exposed regularly to classical thanks to my dad. I have many problems with it. Some of it doesn’t seem to express real, human emotion, but instead gives off this aristocratic, cultured or operatic feeling which feels very fake and I don’t like it. Some of it I can actually appreciate, but only if concentrate on it and really try to feel the music. However, what I get from this kind of concentration are not emotions that I’d like to experience on a daily basis, just maybe ones I’d like when I’m feeling contemplative. Additionally, I like to do other things while listening to music so this kind of focus is inconvenient.
Coming back to popular music, I think some of the artists are very talented. There is a lot of trash don’t get me wrong but there isn’t as much as people say. My question is that why are almost all of them such moral liberalists? If talent is distributed evenly throughout the population this shouldn’t be case.
