Why do these sins get the most attention?

The two sins I notice that get the most attention are either sexual immorality or being judgmental. I sometimes wonder why? People are very anti- being judgmental. You will be yelled at, discouraged for saying anything that sounds slightly judgmental. People again either make it seem like sexual sins do not exist and judging is the worst possible sin. Next, people act like sex is the worst possible sin. Both are bad in their own ways. To be fair, I think being judgmental is worse. I think people are hypersensitive when it comes to judging others.

Whatever happened to stinginess, greed, selfish, BEING RUDE ( I think is a very neglected one), gossip, not wanting to associate with people from a different social class, being an inattentive parent, caring too much for appearance.

There are so many sins. The ones people always talk about either have to with sex or judging

Some sins “cry to heaven” like the blood of Abel. Murdering the innocent is one such sin.

And the LORD said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground. (Genesis 4:10)

St, Paul puts gossip and disobedience to parents in the same sentence as murder and hatred of God.

They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. (Romans 1:29-31)

I remind my children of this often. Then there are sins which have been so politicized that you can’t speak about them without earning a pejorative label.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and putting ketchup on a hotdog are the two worst.

Thank You. I really need to read my bible.

Mary is quoted as having said that sexual sins are the least of sins, but they are the ones that put the most people in Hell. I don’t know whether that was an approved apparition, but I think it fits what I have seen of the world.

You will be judged for being judgmental! 🙂

Maybe this would be a good way to get out of jury duty. “Your honor, I don’t believe in being judgmental! I can’t judge this defendant!”

. . . putting ketchup on a hotdog . . .
👍

Putting ketchup on anything is bad enough, but on a hot dog?! What is it anyway - chicken lips, pig ears and bovine intestine?
I believe it is one of the main seven courses served in America; the others being a six-pack of beer.
It’s a joke, please do not judge me.

I have seen this same quote, but never understood it. How could the “least of sins” send the most to Hell?

You are thinking of the Church approved apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. People on here will usually scoff when you bring into the discussion a “Marian” apparition. But I’ll tell you, if there is one thing that stands out from Our Lady’s appearance at Fatima; it’s that quote of hers that you’re referencing; "More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason." And when you take an honest look at our sexually perverted world today…it’s become crystal clear for me to see exactly where she’s coming from! And I find it hard to simply dismiss her words. But one thing that both of you say puzzles me. I have never, ever heard it attributed to Mary at Fatima saying that sexual sins are the *** “least of sins.” ***

Peace, Mark

Think of it this way… if you rank mortal sins in order of worst to least, sexual sins would be among the bottom. They are grave selfish sins, but not the same as murder, rape, blasphemy, etc

However, they are among the mortal sins committed the most. If they are not confessed, then…

I also think these are the sins that start sending people down the “dark path”

HOWEVER, as someone else said, I’m not aware of the wording “least of sins.” But it it’s true, I would think it’s in comparison to other Moral Sins. But the worst Mortal Sin and the least Mortal Sin are still Mortal Sins…

I one major sin that is overlooked is the sin of omission. Luke 10:29, James 4:17 and Matthew 25:31. It’s easy to see the sin that we and others commit, no matter how minor or great. Yet scripture makes it clear what we should do. This would probably be sins that get the least attention.

Sexual sins get a lot of attention because the public likes sex and doesn’t like being told that it has any sort of context. Then being judgmental gets a lot of attention because people like to take single verses out of context to try to keep people from saying anything about their lifestyle.

It’s amazing how much the message of Fatima has been forgotten in recent years. So much of what was said in that private revelation has come true.

I think sexual sins get a lot of attention because of their potential to do great harm to other people. Life altering harm.

While I personally might not understand all the ins and outs of Church teaching regarding some sexual sins, ultimately various forms of sex abuse, adultery, fornication etc can make or break the lives and security of other people.

Physical violence likewise, but the average person is more likely to fall into sexual sin then violence, as most people are sexual, but a smaller % tend towards violence.

sexual sins are pervasive with a high risk for deep damage

If anyone complains that someone else is being judgmental, then THEY are being judgmental, about someone else being judgmental.
