Why do we as Catholics not say All*****h during lent?
I am sure it is a pretty easy answer. Just wondering.

Cool, thanks. You are allowed to say the word - no need to **** it out.We don’t use Allelulia in Liturgy during Lent. Allelulia is a word that embodies rejoicing. We supress rejoicing during Lent since Lent is a penitential season. Once Lent is over, we go back to rejoicing. There are even extra allelulias during the Easter season.
The OP was simply following an old tradition. At my parish during Lent, when we are practicing for Easter, we refer to it as the “a-word,” or in writing as a------a. Only exception is in Holy Week when choir practices for Easter, do they sing or say the word. I rather like the custom, as it makes the utterance of the word all that much sweeter when the Easter Vigil arrives. You are allowed to say the word - no need to **** it out.We don’t use Allelulia in Liturgy during Lent. I thought we still used a non-Alleluia Gospel acclamation on Holy Thursday.Just my 3 pennyworth here: The next Alleluia is on Holy Thursday (Maundy) evening at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. This is the official end of Lent and beginning of the Easter Triduum. There is obviously no Alleluia on Good Friday but a Double Alleluia after the Easter Vigil and throughout Eastertide. When the priest or deacon sings the double Alleluia on Holy Saturday night and we respond, I go all goosebumpy and get a lump in my throat!![]()
I stand corrected. My memory is going. :hypno:I thought we still used a non-Alleluia Gospel acclamation on Holy Thursday.
I think what might have confused you is that we DO sing the Gloria on Holy Thursday.I stand corrected. My memory is going. :hypno:
The custom of not saying or singing alleluia during lent is not a universal practice in the Church. I think it is peculiar to the Latin rite. Why do we as Catholics not say All*****h during lent?
