Why do we not support gay civil rights?

I understand and believe why gay marriage** should not be allowed, for marriage in itself was created basically for procreation. What is the Catholic Church’s stance on civil rights for gays? For example, shouldn’t we allow them to visit their partner in the hospital even though they are not next-of-kin? This question has been troubling me lately. Thanks so much!
