Why do we say Mary is the Mother of God?

Why does the “Hail Mary” say “Holy Mary, Mother of God” Isn’t Holy Mary the mother of Jesus?
 
A basic principle of math is if A = B and B=C then A = C.

If Mary is the Mother of Jesus, and Jesus is God, then Mary is the Mother of God.
