"Which words in the Pope resignation message could be interpreted to this conclusion?"

None. There is evidence of it from the story that broke last August about Pope Benedict XVI having had a mystical experience. To my knowledge he has never denied that story.
His secretary said it wasn’t true.

It’s a waste of time to speculate on something we will never know for sure. Forget it.

The man was the Pope for crying out loud - lets give him the benefit of the doubt that the reasons given were sincere and get on with our lives.

At a minimum, God has revealed to us what we need to know. That’s good enough for me.

i posted this with the lay catholic understanding of why he resigned. not that i am a lay catholic, but i have the knowledge and sensibilities of one as a former catholic and one who stays informed.

to most of us, i think, it was a mystery as to whey he resigned. that’s what people talked about, couldn’t figure it out.

then there are reputable looking stories about him having a mystical expeience that told him to resign, if you do a simple google search, so if that was true id guess it had to do with more than his health. a mystical experience saying your health is bad is just odd.

i did read after i posted this, that there are some more offiical statements about his old age.

considering it all, i’d think it’s still a valid or maybe open question. i realize we can just take what’s given and get on with it, but there sounds to possibly be more to it.

Cause he’s fed up to the back teeth and he’s had a gutfull! (of what I’ll let you imagine).
