Why does Charity Mobile use Verizon?

I’ve been trying to boycott Planned Parenthood as much as possible, but I’m struggling to choose a phone provider. Verizon and AT&T are both direct supporters, so I wanted to avoid them. Right now I’m using Charity Mobile which is promoted as Pro-Life. They even sent me a bunch of pro-life pamphlets and a pin of the baby feet icon when I bought a plan, but they ride Verizon… Would it make more sense to use a neutral service like Cricket Wireless to keep money from Planned Parenthood?

Edit: I just found out Cricket Wireless is a subsidiary of AT&T… What do I do?

Sadly, there are many instances where there are only a few providers of a service, and they are all pro secular. If there are no other providers available that are prolife, Charity Mobile has no choice but to “ride” one of them. See what Charity Mobile itself does. In the long run, if Catholic individuals might have no influence on corporate giants, but Catholic-friendly organizations, or “riders”, might. I assume Charity Mobile is so tiny they have little influence on any of the mega corporations, but if Charity Mobile grows, they might.

This is perhaps the way of the future. Imagine if there was a Catholic equivalent to Amazon; some companies would be willing to modify their policies somewhat, to get the business of this group of consumers. We have to bundle our dollars with other Christians. Charity Mobile might be a stepping stone to something much better and bigger. But they need help to grow from tiny to big.

Thank you, that makes sense. I hope they do grow, I’ve heard them advertised on The Stations of the Cross radio station.

Co-op type arrangements are plausible in many areas. I heard about coops - groups of Christians who don’t have their own health insurance provided by an employer - forming an association that self insures the members, collectively. None of their “premiums” goes to shiny glass buildings and paid advertising (let alone abortion).

Ave Maria Funds is a pro Catholic, prolife family of mutual funds. They invest only in companies that are compatible with Catholic social teaching. This is a way of “bundling” your retirement savings with others. This is a tiny mutual fund family, but still much bigger than you or I personally.

These are only stop gap solutions, but necessary, to deal with the massive centralized corporations (including the federal government, the biggest corporation of them all). In the long run, we have to work towards distributism, which is found in Pope Leo XIII teaching but developed by G. K. Chesterton.

Support self employment, or small businesses. If a given manufacturing process requires a group of workers, let the workers in this particular factory collectively own this plant, and no other plants. Government should be handled at the lowest level possible with the task. When economic decisions are centralized as they are now, they invariably move not only farther from individual choice and freedoms, they move farther from any kind of morality.

The short term goal is to form cooperatives to help deal with corporate goliaths, the long term goal is eliminate the corporate goliaths.
