Why does God allow us to be misled?

If that is the case, what about people who never have that happen to them and spend their whole lives believing that it is a grave sin to investigate any other church or listen to anything that might disagree? I could hardly believe that I alone was lucky and my friends growing up would be condemned to a life of sin based on what was outside our control!

There are any number of people who won’t investigate the Catholic church because of the mininformation that they were subjected to. It is the same situation. What we have to do is to pray for them that they too will receive and accept the graces of God someday. But we must recognize that God is not on our time table. And therefore we should be happy and grateful that it did happen to you.

Your friends would not be condemned to a life of sin if they sincerely believed what they were doing was ok. For we will be judged on what we know and not on our ignorance. JimR explained this very well.
