I really don’t. My internship that paid very well just got dropped because of a too clean drug test (like I was trying to hide something, nothing I did wrong). I have never done drugs in my life.
But why does God let these things happen? What is His plan? The internship was one of the best things that has ever happened to me then WHOOSH gone leaving me with no work the whole summer. I’m not suicidal but I really feel like not living anymore. I just pray for something to end me.

I feel like God is the fisherman guy in the State Farm commercials saying “gotta be quicker than that” and “almost got it” like he is taunting me unfairly. i’m tired of taking it on the chin from him on a daily basis. I’m just tired and exhausted in general.

any advice? thanks. just wanted to get that off from chest.

There is something called free will. God does not make someone do something they do not want to do. What makes you think God specifically waits till you wake up everyday and thinks “How can I get George92 today?” Stuff happens. It is not Gods fault. The sooner you accept that the better. If someone does not want you to intern with them and they are the one in charge, you will not have a internship with them. God will not make them change their mind. He will not violate their free will. God is loving, not cruel but he lets things that disappoint us happen sometimes. That is life. The mature attitude is to accept it, not point fingers. Life is not fair. Accept it. Do not blame God for every misfortune. Prayers going your way. You will get over this.Nobody can tell you what Gods plan is. It is not to bully you everyday.

Whenever things have happened to me like that, for instance, training for a position, then applying for it and not getting it, and the company hiring someone else who wasn’t trained for it: when I look back on it, the Lord had something else in mind which turned out to be so much better,

It’s a difficult place to be and it’s upsetting, but God really does want what is best for His children. One of my favorite Bible verses is in Proverbs chapter 3. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and He will direct your path.”

Hang in there. I’ll say some prayers for you.

It also helps to look at a crucifix and ponder the Lord’s love for us.

Hi George,

I am so very, very, sorry that you lost your internship. 😦

There are so many things that happen in life that seem to be beyond our control, and that also seem to be unfair that can happen to us.

I agree with Laughinboy that we all have free will, and that we are sometimes subjected to others’ free will.

Things have happened to my husband and I that just seemed so unfair in life, too. You can get upset and angry, but then you can also do your best to move on.

I agree with Autumn Smoke though, that I think that things can also work out better for us when something happens to us, because God may have something else better lined up for us, that we didn’t see coming.

Prayers said for you George, that something better comes along for you. Hang in there, and don’t despair. Hang on to your faith, and keep your eyes on the Lord.

May God bless you during this difficult time for you.

:twocents: This sounds completely bogus (and perhaps actionable) to me – Like they made up an excuse to terminate you when they had no legitimate cause.

Sometimes, He has something else in mind for you to do or a place for you to be.

The only way you can know this is by looking back 30 years from now.

In the meanwhile, find a Catholic Church that has Eucharistic Adoration, and just kneel there or sit there in front of Jesus in the Monstrance … and just say “help”.

Or just sit there and let Him look at you while you look at Him.

I am very serious about this.

Been there, done that.

Many times.

Yeah, I don’t know about the actionable bit, but it does sound like the sort of thing you could appeal.

I am reminded of the epic inconvenience of when my car broke down in a parking lot. I was facing a standard drive tine on a standard road but couldnot leave the lot. Annoying and costly repairs due.

When buying a candy bar while awaiting a tow truck it turns out that at standard drive time the spot I should have been on the road had a major accident. I viewed my car troubles as miserable and such, but the thought that I was due to be were the truck jackknifed was a bit interesting as that surely would have been worse.

My condolences, George.

Although many will disagree with this, I’ll say it anyhow. Negative events in our life are **not **always to “test us” or to “teach us a lesson.” They occur often because in a world of semi-free wills, the other party’s free will just doesn’t include what we seek. Such as your lost internship.

I’m not gonna say that you lost the internship because God had something immediately better for you. Maybe that is so and maybe it’s not. But hardship is part of our life, and it does work out in time if we can hold on long enough.

C’mon George. You’re ready to lose or question your faith over an internship? Really? Pull yourself together. I have never really understood the whole “why does God let this happen” stuff. He stood by and watched his Son be humiliated, tortured, and murdered for our sins. And unlike us when we experience hardships, he could have stopped it at any time. This will pass. Take a day off and clear your head, then dust yourself off and get back out there with the knowledge that God loves you. Good luck.

Sometimes God’s deletion id for your protection. He will remove things from your life in order to protect you or to direct you toward something better. It seems hard at the moment but remember that our plans are not always God’s plans. Send up a prayer thanking Him for all He does in your life and as Him to guide and direct your path. Remain open to what comes.

Blessings!

I’m going to give you a bit of perspective on how bad the loss of your internship is (or, more likely, isn’t) while I share with you a true, and very personal story.

I grew up with God, but not Catholic or really going to church. But I was biblically literate, and God was in my life to some degree. I carried this poor, but present, relationship with God into my adulthood. God was there, but I didn’t really talk to him much, and certainly didn’t let him guide me.

My first career was search and rescue. Saw a lot of bad stuff, but oh well, things happen. Then one night we launched on something potentially really bad. I prayed to God to let everything turn out okay. It wasn’t. Instead of turning out okay, it turned out to be about the worse situation I could have imagined. Hundreds of innocent people died, including an entire high school class.

I got mad at God. I rarely prayed, but the one time I did, it didn’t help. And I certainly asked myself the same question you asked: “Why would God let this happen?” Yeah, free will allows people to make bad decisions, but those kids were completely and totally innocent. Why does God let disasters happen? I just couldn’t wrap my head around a loving God allowing such terrible things to happen.

So I kicked God further out of my life, and my life got worse for it.

Fast forward 15 years and I’m retiring from that career and divorcing. I met a wonderful Catholic woman who introduces me to the Church and I feel right at home. We break up, so I find a different parish and I inquire about RCIA. A sister at that parish talks with me at great length about my relationship with God. She doesn’t try to answer that question for me, just tells me to think about it. I am sitting in the RCIA class going over the readings for the day which is about Jesus healing the man who had been blind since birth. (John 9:3 I think).

The Disciples are questioning Jesus about “what sin did the parents have that caused their son to be born blind” since, at the time, the communal thinking was that bad things happen because of sin. This was at a time when being born blind was possibly WORSE than dying, as you became a life-long burden on your family.

But Jesus responded to the Disciples that the man was born blind so that the Grace of God can be shown.

I totally lost it in my RCIA class. Right in front of about 20 people I barely knew.

I suddenly was able to wrap my head around one POSSIBLE reason why God allows terrible things to happen…so that His grace can be shown.

I’ve seen a lot of bad things, and I often see people in distress who turn to God in their troubles. I’ve seen people, and families, who I’m pretty sure haven’t prayed in years (or ever) suddenly drop to their knees and ask God for help.

I’m sure that many families who lost loved ones that night so long ago turned to God to help with their anguish.

So, long story short, why does God let absolutely horrific things happen? I don’t know. I’m not smart enough to know the mind of God. But, one possible reason (and I’m sure there are many more), is so that His grace can be shown.

Sucks you lost your intern job. Coulda been worse.

Wound up marrying that wonderful Catholic girl
