Someone started a thread in spirituality on “What are your reasons for loving God?”. I would like to ask the opposite side of the coin on that question and feel it falls better under apologetics as opposed to spirituality since I think some philosophy may be required.

We are all made cracked, human, sinful, unthankful, vessels. Yet, despite our iniquities, God loves us with all his heart. The hairs on our heads have all been counted we are told by Christ. So a simple and yet complex question in one : Why Does God Love Us?.

Because we are his creation? Because we bring him joy? Or something else. Any answers welcome because God of course did not need to create us, so why does He love us?

God Bless All! 🙂

I can’t answer for God, but this makes sense to me:

Gen 1:26-31

Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.”

God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them.

God blessed them, saying: “Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth.”

God also said: "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant all over the earth and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food;

and to all the animals of the land, all the birds of the air, and all the living creatures that crawl on the ground, I give all the green plants for food." And so it happened.

God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed–the sixth day.

Thanks for answering. God had no need of creating us and one wonders why he did. I guess creation was all good before the Fall.

God Bless!🙂

Yes, indeed! I’m pretty sure that God does not love us because we bring Him joy, because I think that would go against the fact that God cannot be change or be changed.

When God created mankind, He knew we would fall and turn against Him. So why He created us at all is a mystery to me. My brain hurts! I’d like to see what everyone else has to say.

Yes, same here because I’m getting tired. I guess I’ll check in tomorrow. God Bless!🙂

I have often wondered why God loves us(me). We are not the only beings who marvel at the love of God.St.Paul, in Heb.2:5-7 quotes Ps.8(D.R.Bible)These verses tell of an Angel asking God:What is man that you are mindfull of him?The Angel appeare to be asking,"Why do You love man,and are concerned about him?God does not give a responce. What these Scriptures seem to relate is “there is no reason”.We can’t earn Gods Love,we don’t deserve Gods Love.If there were a specific reason for Gods Love,it would mean there are times God dos’nt Love us.God loves us in our weekness and failings.Nothing we do can separate us from Gods Love, for God is Love.(Please don’t think I’m saying "once saved, always saved).Peace,Rocky.

One cannot go wrong with the Catechism either (221):

St. John…affirms that ‘God is love’: God’s very being is love. By sending His only Son and the Spirit of Love in the fullness of time, God has revealed his innermost secret: God himself is an eternal exchange of love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and he has destined us to share in that exchange.

Nicely encapsulated there, and it points to the very nature of the Holy Trinity as being of Love, to which we are called.

And of course surely one must not forget one of the most beautiful verses ever written in the Bible by St.Paul in Romans 8:38 “For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

It’s nice to recall these lines at times because on these forums quite a bit of people seem to worry overwhelmingly about “scrupulosity” which is of course needed at times, but then we tend to forget the basic: God Loves You! It helps some of us to be reminded of that at times. God Bless! 🙂

And of course, one shouldn’t forget from the First Letter of John 4:7-11:

“Dearly beloved, let us love one another: for charity is of God. And every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

John goes on to write that if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is perfected in us. There is no fear in love, John tells us, as perfect love drives out all fear. We love because God loved us first. 🙂

I don’t know but it seems people are more willing to deal with and post their fears of God and how they can remain in good with God and what they need to work most on themselves and their personal guilts, then they are willing at times to sit down for a second and ponder God’s love for them. God created each one of us unique with strengths and weaknesses particular to every person. There are no two exactly of us anywhere. We’re all different and God loves us this way.

It seems that, apart from putting the full armor of God on each day and living morally, it does not hurt to remind oneself that God is Love for at least once an hour in one’s day. Perfect love drives out all fear.

Our God is not the God of Islam which emphasizes submission over love. We are to have a personal relationship with Christ and we do have a redemption theology unlike others. We should never forget this side of the equation, God’s personal love for us, in growing in faith.

God Bless! 🙂
