Yes, the body of Christ as a whole needs to be above reproach…The god of this world who is the father of those who reject Christ will operate in it’s base nature…

We keep hearing about how “traditional” media, i.e. newspapers, “respected” news outfits like the New York Times, AP, Reuters, etc are all going down the tubes, and haven’t found a way to make money in the age of the internet, “free” online news, blogs, and hyperlocal. So maybe the AP sees this as a way to stay “relevant”. There is a lot of deep-seeded anti-Catholicism in the US, so what better way than to find some stories that connect nuggets of real scandal with long-standing suspicions and prejudices of Catholics.

That said I think that maybe 20-30 years hence this will make the Church stronger. It is irritating to see AP chumming the water to drive the media feeding frenzy, but the abuse that really happened is dispicable, and absolutely must be rooted out. Maybe the media continuing to harp on it is what it will take for every last bishop to realize that it’s not just something that happens in other diocese in other countries, but that every bishop needs to be proactive to prevent it in his own diocese. We can’t do anything about the fact that this happens with Protestants, Mormons, Jews, teachers, doctors, or anyone else, but we are called to be holy, and we can’t tolerate or make excuses for any behavior like this.
I’ve never heard the media complain they aren’t making any money. In 2011, the New York Times is going to begin charging for some internet content. As someone who works in the media, I get emails to attend conferences to tell me how to monetize my “content,” on different “platforms,” which simply means I can sell a physical book, sell an ebook version, resell portions of it to aggregators on the internet and other places. Sell and resell is the current mantra.

In the early part of the 20th Century there were hundreds of owners of book publishing houses, magazine publishing houses and other publishing companies, including newspapers. Today, media giants own newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, magazines, book publishers and the list goes on. The owner can add his desired slant to all of it.

I applaud the media when they get the story right, but for this, they played it badly. Even former Mayor of New York, Ed Koch, said enough is enough. The media today is primarily pagan and beholden to its owners. Their biases are its biases.

God bless,
Ed

A couple of thoughs come to mind:
  1. Telling journalists that they are vile “tools of Satan” as some catholics have done, doesn’t make the best of impressions. They are professionals paid to gather information based on the interests of their readers. One area of interest for their readers is the abuse scandal and the church.
Some journalists likely have a bias against the church and some may simply be disgusted with the church for its apparent casual disregard for the suffering of children at the hands of priests. Others may be Catholics doing their job with the information they have.

All journalists dislike people or organizations who stonewall them. They have deadlines to meet and are in competition with other news services. To be accused on a lack of proper research by a group that did little or nothing to provide them with information when asked adds to the problem and the dislike.
  1. You are better off leaving the comments of others alone-people reading can tell the difference between the news story and the responses. Post something positive related to the church if you wish or a link to information that you feel provides context or correction to the story, but don’t get into a public p***ing match with trolls spewing sound bites.

Really? Do you not know why? AP is of the world. The world will always hate that which is not of the world.

John 15:18
If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. 19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Amen:thumbsup:👍

Just why. I don’t get it. Is there an ancient feud between the Vatican and Reuters that I don’t know about?

My biggest question now is: do I write in the ‘comments section’ below every video and article, and reply to the people stating (probably with straight faces):

RELIGION IS THE SOURCE OF ALL WARS
THE VATICAN IS RICH, PRIESTS ARE MASTERS OF SERFS
CHURCH IS BABYLON

Do I respond vehemently and correct their errors (with a little acerbic verbosity, for panache), or simply save my guns for the bigger battles?
Basically and don’t quote me exactly but Christ said something to the effect “The world will hate all those who follow me” Just think back to all the marters of the early church and you have you answer. “Be not of the world”

I take the position of loving them despite the hate. Let them carry all the negative feelings. Feel free to send them a letter and correct their errors in a loving way but don’t expect anything or any change. I foresee things getting a lot worse for Christians in the coming years. I quite paying attention to the media a long while ago. I’ve been happier since I started doing that. 👍🤷

The Discipline in the Church paticularly the refusal of the Church hiearcy to fall in line with the demands of the secular World has brought in its wake several enemies. The Church adheres to celibacy, denounces Homosexuality, fornication, and same sex marriage quite rightly, and does not accept Abortion They have also angered certain anti Christians. The criticism of the Church will therefore attract a large media base and that is the target of AP and Reuters and the media in general. The media is certainly biased.Paedoplies and other sex abuses are prevalent among the clergy of other religions as well but these events do not interest the Media I suppose because the target audience too is disinterested.
Having said that in my mind they have unconciously brought about a cleansing of the Church and also sent a reminder to our Clergy that they cannot toe the line of the Secular World that they are priests of God propagating the World of Jesus Christ and should thus lead the flock by their own example.Someday we may even thank AP and Reuters.
