Why doesn't catholic.com put things into perspective

catholic.com is a small website that gets very little traffic. Don’t they realize that its going to close in the future and that they are not being very straightforward about how much traffic it receives. The LDS website gets 10 times more traffic despite how small the LDS church is. Don’t they need to put things into perspective?

Do you have any more detail to the LDS website you refer to? You only referenced the Catholic web site. It is difficult to get perspective when you do not provide any information regarding the LDS site you posted about. Thanks.

It would be interesting to see how Catholic.com traffic compares to other faith websites such as LDS, Lutheran, Christianity.com and others just for perspective.
 
Actually, I thought the LDS website you were referring to was a discussion forum. It’s really not an apples to apples comparison.

A better comparison might be the official Vatican Website since both are official church web sites. Although admittedly, the statistics for LDS.org are higher than Vatican.va as well.

Well the Catholic laity have no need to access the Vatican site regularly, most of their inquiries would be at a parish or diocese level. The LDS laity on the other hand can be called to give a talk or provide a lesson at any time. Since they have no one dedicated to do these tasks who would be knowledgeable and trained they need a resource. And thus LDS.org gets lots of traffic as weekly around the globe people look to the site to guide them in their “talk” or “lesson” plan. Something like a receptionist called in every other month to teach a third grade class.

They are very proud of the fact that they have no paid and educated clergy.

Not necessariliy. The OP did not even provide the LDS website in question initially. In all honesty, I’m glad the the OP raised the question. As Catholics, we need to be able to intelligently respond to such a charge - that Catholic.com has little traffic although Catholicism is large.

Firstly, it’s not an apples to apples comparison (the LDS site is not a discussion forum), and secondly, as zaffiroborant pointed out, the structure of the two churches are different which explains why traffic on the site may be larger on an LDS site compared to the Vatican site.
 
And porn sites blow them both out of the water.

I put little stock in the statistics of Internet hits.

What is the point of this “mine is bigger than yours” statement? Really? What are you trying to get at with this?

Get over it - the Catholic Church isn’t going anywhere. Compare the size and length of time that other site has been on the internet compared to the 2000+ years the Catholic Church has been in existance.

We don’t need no stinkin’ internet. The gates of hell shall not prevail.
