Why doesn't the Vatican give away all its money?

A person has asked me:

“Makes me wonder if the Vatican is going to donate all the gold and precious gems from their buildings to the Third World Countries.”

Clearly, he believes the Vatican should donate all it’s money to truly be in the right. I know this is bogus, but I want to answer with the right words. Please link me an already existing post that answers this, or tell me what I can say to make him understand why the Church can’t just give all her money away.
