A religious sister has taken public vows in a religious institute dedicated to apostolic works, they take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, but do not have Holy Orders. Clergy are persons who are ordained via the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

Greetings of peace!
Because Jesus is a man and not a woman and sisters or nuns did not undergo the Sacrament of Holy Orders,a sacrament that for men only. However women’s role model is Mary and in the Life of Mary she never celebrated masses.Jesus is a man and He is the first person to institute the Holy Eucharist.

Sisters do not take on holy orders. They take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The priest is a representation of Christ, who was male not female.

Because Jesus chose men to be His apostles. The priest celebrates Mass in persona Christi, that means in the person of Jesus. If a woman is a priest you are saying that Christ is female, that is blasphemy. Therefore only a man can receive Holy Orders.

In the Catholic Church we obey the revealed Divine Will of God, which is that the sacrament of Holy Orders in all three degrees (bishop, priest, deacon) is reserved to viri (adult, male humans). Therefore, no woman is ordained to the priesthood. This applies to those in regular and secular institutes of consecrated life, societies of apostolic life, consecrated virgins, non religious and whether married or single. One has to be a priest to celebrate the Mass and women cannot be priests.

The style ‘Reverend’ is one of honour and respect and is not a sign that someone has been ordained. For example, in monastic orders an abbess would be styled Right Reverend Dame N. N. and a prioress as Very Reverend Dame N. N. The presence of the word ‘reverend’ in their style of address does not mean they are ordained clergy.
