Vatican II teaches that non-christians also will attain salvation, provided their ignorance of Christ or Catholic Church is for no fault of theirs, and if they lead a life true to their conscience. The argument is that, in their acts of obedience to their conscience it is Jesus Christ that they respond to.
The Church, nonetheless, teaches that evangelization should and must continue, as it is only the Catholic Church that has the fullness of the means of salvation.
Catholic Church might have the fullness of the means of salvation, but it also has the hardest moral codes to live by. The Holly See does teach that the moral restrictions should not be seen as a burden but only as the joy of being really free. But the fact is that, for most catholics some moral codes are indeed a burden. If it were not for the infallibility and teaching authority of the Church, many good catholics might not even have thought that some of the issues involved are morally objectionable.
My question is, when it is so hard to live according to the conscience inculcated by the Catholic Church, why do we need to evagelize at all? Why do we call them in and give them more encounters with sin? Why not leave them where they are, as good guys who live according to the best dictates of their conscience?
