Why did the lectionary exclude verses 19-22 of today’s reading of Psalm 139? Sometimes virtuous people do pray that God “would destroy the wicked.” The psalm writer then said in vs 24 “see if my way is crooked”.
An old Boston priest told me that in past times, the Church suggested that these “hate” passages be read as a means of releasing hate in one’s self, a kind of therapy of sorts.
I just think that the lectionary writers thought these four verse too thorny of an issue.
