Why He needs it?

Why does God only forgive after we repent ? Why if we are asked to forgive regardless of whether or not the offending person asks for our forgiveness and repents?

God’s forgiveness is a done-deal. But it still has no effect until we appropriate it, so to speak, with contrition and repentance. The same is true when we forgive, but our offer must stand just as His does. Our forgiveness must be authentic regardless of whether not it’s desired or accepted.
