The Catholic Church
  • doesn’t teach we are “guilty” of original sin.
  • teaches baptism is necessary for EVERYONE…that means infants too.
Even if you don’t recognize it, you definitely buy into the Baptist argument against infant baptism. I pray for your return to the Church
I apologize, but yes you are right about the “personal guilt” comment. Augustine, Luther, Calvin and others did hold that but Catholics reject it. vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p1s2c1p7.htm

So for that, I do apologize because I was wrong, plain and simple.

As this article explains, however, the Catholic Church has pronounced the “personal guilt” of Adam imputed onto infants in councils and has held at several points in history (which is why I thought they still held it) that Adam’s guilt was transferred to infants as well. Since Vatican I, however, that has not been the case apparently.

Did you see what was written at the top of that article?

"This article or section needs a cleanup to bring it to a higher standard of quality. "

 sheesh!!!

*That’s why I never quote anything that has “wiki” anywhere in its name. When anybody can edit and make comments to me that’ makes it worthless. *

Orthodox Wiki is pretty reliable…

Here is the actual quote from the Council of Orange:
CANON 2. If anyone asserts that Adam’s sin affected him alone and not his
descendants also, or at least if he declares that it is only the death of
the body which is the punishment for sin, and not also that sin, which is
the death of the soul, passed through one man to the whole human race, he
does injustice to God and contradicts the Apostle, who says, "Therefore as
sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death
spread to all men because all men sinned" (Rom. 5:12).
It seems to me that is exactly what the Church is teaching.

Here is the Orthodox Church in America saying just what I said earlier…oca.org/questions/teaching/original-sin
